I discovered today that APMEX will ship to Australia for orders over $250 if you pay by CC (previously it was $1,500+ only I believe). Its not all sunshine and unicorns however. There are conditions: So after all that I thought I'd still give it a go, and discovered a couple of things: (a) Turn off adblock which could hide the frame containing the Visa or Mastercard security code SMS request (b) Card address must be same as shipping/mailing address (c) Visa and MasterCard only (no sign of PayPal despite claims to the contrary elsewhere.) (d) It doesn't fu*kin work That's right, after several attempts with their shitty payment process, and after carefully entering everything multiple times and getting auth codes from my bank and MasterCard I get the following totally turtling useless error message: Now, I'm not discounting the fact that I may be a complete idiot and missed some important condition or filled something out wrong, but then this would be the first online payment system that defeated me. So, in summary, it was a waste of time.
That's good news, I've only ever bought through APMEX via Maggie, there are definitely some unique items that are hard to get in Australia and cheaper than eBay
Just a thought - were you using an Australian (.au) email address? Years ago I tried to order something from a US website, got a vaguely similar message, and eventually worked out it was rejecting the order based on my .au email address. Changed to backup email address (.com) - problem solved, order accepted. YMMV.
In my case it was a standard gmail address. I've sent them an email with the details and I'll update when I get a reply.
i remember back in 2009 i wanted so many things off apmex. but all the things i wanted are now sold here. what do u guys still want that u cant get here?
The ATB I got from Apmex was in much better condition than from PerthBullion, might have just been luck. They have a lot of European gold coins at good prices, and Mexican gold coins. Also older years of coins you can get here, like Libertads from the 80's.
Got another email from Apmex after I described my issue: I'm starting to thing they are just auto-replying to questions and problem reports
I have previously used shipping services to forward purchases from Amazon/eBay and other vendors who either refuse to ship to AU, or pricing is well outside what is reasonable. Not sure that I would want to do it with bullion though.
I think APMEX specifically state they will not deliver to drop shippers and when I checked such services, many had conditions that specifically precluded bullion and precious metals.
Sounds like an opportunity for U.S. stackers to make a few bucks re-mailing to Australia. I'd much rather pay a trustworthy forum member $5 for their troubles than pay $70-odd to FedEx.
I'd be in it. I had the one (costly) experience with APMEX and said 'never again' and thought of who I knew in the US who could re-mail as the only way.........
