I recently purchased someones collection of coins, totalling about 10kg of silver (mixed pre and post) and more than 15kg in Pennys/Half Pennys.
I got a decent price in terms of scrap value but just wondering if any circulated coins have any numismatic value significantly above scrap.

So far I've gone through the florins and shillings and picked out some of what my brief research indicated was the rarest year and found 3x 1932 Florins. Whats the rough going price for these and what other years/coins should I be looking out for? (Evidently there are no 1930 pennys!)

I'd value those at $250 or so each. Look for 1931 shillings, 1922/21 3d overdates, 1934/3 3d overdates. In the copper look for 1925/1946/1915H pennies, and 1923 half pennies.

Nice finds, just make sure they are not knock offs and you can convert an oz of silver into a kg!

You really need consider more than one eBay result when you're supporting the value of a coin. I can just as easily post an eBay result where coins of that grade have sold for $300. Look here's a mangy dipped one sold by one of the shonkiest sellers on eBay that is cleaned and still got $300.

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/FLORIN-1...67330?pt=AU_Coins2&hash=item35d3d2b1c2&_uhb=1

I looked at several results and averaged the results and added a bit. Put those 32's up as BIN's for $250 and they'd sell. And $150? I know a dealer in Melbourne that would buy a thousand of those coins for $150 because he'd make money reselling them. He has a standing offer of $150 a coin for 32's in low grades. Heck I'd pay $150 each for those coins and stick them up on our website for $250 and consider it money extremely well spent.

ok that is a peter Wallace coin so the shill has something to do with that result. you can not rely on peter Wallace result.
also I see that these coins have discolouration especially the middle one which lead me to think they are problem coins.
further more I think we are both grasping at straws somewhat as we have not seen the other side and that has a great impact on grade

Yeah I got a very good deal. I paid less than half scrap price just for the silver. But it was an auction buy so I was taking a chance.

Here's the other side. I doubt they are fakes as they were all just jumbled together and weren't even listed in the item. But possible very old fakes I suppose.

I guess I will have a browse through the Half Pennys.

Thanks for the info purple. I use your site all the time for the calculators. Any other half pennies worth looking for? So I don't go through 1000 coins just to find 1 year.

Thanks James. I just spent the last 30 minutes looking at half pennies and found none of the key dates. Wasn't fun at all :)
I suppose I should get to the 3p now. 2kg of them :/

I have lots of the early 1910-1915 florins. Mostly worn. Does anyone buy them at decent premium to silver? Or just try ebay?

We have had some luck selling kilo lots of pre florins at some premium above silver. The premium isn't huge though. You might have some better luck splitting them up by decade and selling them in smaller lots and describing the dates in each lot.

Or you can sell them here, reasonably priced lots normally sell fairly well, but dont expect a huge premium.

Had some time the other day and sorted through the copper coins. Didn't find much of interest unfortunately. I have a feeling someone took out anything of value before I got them.
I found around ten 1915H Pennies and fifteen 1918 pennies. I can't imagine they have much value as they seemed pretty common.

The rest I just put into bags and put them all up on Ebay to clear. Take up too much space.

Thanks BJA, When it comes time to sell i'll probably offer them here. I'm optimistic silver will go up a bit so I've no short term plans to sell the bullion coins, was just seeing if any individual pieces had greater value and were worth separating.
