Hi y'all! After months of lurking, I recently decided to sign up. For what it's worth: My top three excuses for lurking: 1. I've already signed up to a bunch of other forums that I don't get to visit regularly; why add another one? 2. I don't want anyone to know that I stack (for security reasons). 3. I Ican't think of a cool enough user name. My top three reasons for signing up: 1. I spend so much time on SilverStackers anyway, and have been wanting to comment on a variety of interesting threads. 2. It sucks not having anyone to talk investment strategies with. 3. It was the only way to buy goodies off someone from the classifieds <busted!>. Seriously though, I was just being lazy and put off signing up. When I did sign up, I realized I was missing out on 'hidden' forums that are for members' eyes only all this time. Bonus! Anyway, at such an early stage, this site is already a wealth of information; kudos to GoldPelican and the regular posters for getting the knowledge out there. I look forward to exchanging ideas and trading with fellow stackers from hereon in! EB
Welcome. This is one of the most intelligent forums I've seen and quite tolerant given the diversity of opinions. Join you in congratulations to GP for being a very good moderator.
Welcome aboard El Bullion. You're absolutely right, GP runs a tight ship here. Mucho respect from the rest of the crew for his efforts!
A fellow Sydneysider Ag/Au stacked alleged that he had a substantial amount of bullion stolen( approx $18,000-$20,000AUD). That's a couple of years back now. He reckoned he knew who it was! I'm not sure what the final outcome was?. Hmmmm Yeah, you have to watch out. BTW, welcome.
Uhmm... oh did I tell you all that I just moved house? Somewhere remote... My old address is no longer good. :|
Thanks for the warm welcome everyone! I really, really appreciate it. After reading so many of the threads around here, I kind of know you all already. But don't worry, I don't mean that in a stalker kind of way ...more of an affinity in that I am not just interested in precious metals, but also mindful of the state of the economy in general. I think what casual visitors might miss from this forum is the common desire of its members to ensure their well being and the well being of their families in the face of uncertainty and well, lets call a spade a spade, financial insecurity. It's not all about making money, right? Beyond the excitement of making the right trade, taking that first big step of setting aside some bullion in lieu of leaving all of your savings in the bank, or even acquiring that most beautiful coin whose story very few would actually appreciate, I can see that most people here, myself included, just want to sleep at night knowing that things are going to be ok tomorrow. And discussions here show that informed investing in precious metals, real estate, and other assets can help in that regard. BTW, that is what I tell my wife when she sees me glued to this site, and when I have an eye for a nice coin, lest she think that I'm obsessing over a new hobby! Oh, and as for keeping things private for 'security reasons', I am simply taking extra precaution as our home was recently broken into. It's pretty disturbing to say the least, and I've learned not to keep anything of value at home....not that I have anything of much value to begin with! EB
Welcome El Bullion. It makes compete sense to get your deliveries to PO Box instead of your home for the above mentioned security reasons.
What about the postal workers. They might get interested if you get packages that seem to be a little heavy. You have to collect them from staff if the packets etc are too big to go in the private box. I don't think that there is anyway to purchase PM with 100% security. Regards Errol43
Getting heavy packages delivered is an issue, but I just tell them that I'm finally doing something to get fit and lose some of the extra pounds so I'm buying weights online to build my home gym
