Really good discussion tonight. Joe Hockey highlighted there are 20,000 more public servants today than when Labor took office in 2007, and that liberals would cut 12,000 government jobs immediately if they are elected. Love it. http://www.abc.net.au/tv/qanda/txt/s3248763.htm Transcript up from 2pm Tuesday (tomorrow).
That's exactly what I was going to comment on before I read the thread contents. I was impressed he held his nerve even though the crowd started to have a whinge as soon as they heard job cuts.
Did Mr Hockey give the numbers of how many public servants there were in 1996 and how many there were in 2007? To be honest I don't know but I bet he does but its different when you are in opposition. They be all the same I tell you. Has any politician of either party told us about the USA federal reserve handouts to 2 of Australia's largest banks? They are all good at scoring brownie points when in opposition.. You learn more here on SS than you ever will on TV. Regards Errol43
Judith Sloan was the only one talking reality. The rest were sprouting their own agenda and why do they have people like Katauskas on at all? Just to keep up the leftie bias?
I'd love to see a graph of number of people vs year, with two series: number of public servants and total population. I would expect an overall convergance. Be interesting though to see vertical bands that show who is in power during each period and see how the growth compares for the terms of the two parties.
