Just checked on eBay. The cheapest was going for A$1k (+ GST) with free delivery.

Appreciate if anyone could comment on the price differences.

This was always going to happen. The Perth Mint claimed that these 20,000 sets were all destined for China. But no, a select few get their hands on them and sell them for an outrageous price. When with the Perth Mint ever learn that its continual shafting of Australian customers will lead them to serious customer erosion here at home..... or maybe like so many other big Aussie business they dont give a tinkers about their domestic customers anymore.

I suppose I am a bit biased (I have 2 of these sets :D), but in my thinking they are probably undervalued.
My reasoning is that they are limited to 20,000 sets, the other colours (besides red) are only available in this set and only available in 1oz. Obviously they are not worth as much as the proofs, but still should carry a decent premium - they are speciman quality rather than bullion after all. The red 1oz is available from China for @$168.
    - so my thinking is they should be worth $130 -160 per coin? Maybe more? If sold individually, how much would someone be prepared to pay, just for arguements sake, on ebay for 1 blue dragon? or 1 yellow dragon?

There doesn't seem much love for this set, maybe the Chinese New Year may spark up a bit of interest - here's hoping anyway :D

Any verdict on the paint peeling? - are most sets OK? is it possible for the peeling to happen later (ie. years from now) ... thinking of buying but a bit worried

The paint pealing was mentioned by one person on another fourm and seams to have gone viral. Can't help but think that thoes who are promoting this as an issue have a touch of the green eyed monster at not being able to afford a set of their own. I myself have a set and have to say it is stunning.
I would like to mention to anyone interested in buying a set to google actual photos of the coins as the promotional drawings from Perth Mint used by alot of sellers do not give a real indication of the coins colours. The 'brown' coin is much more brown in the flesh and the purple ones have a far more delicate tone. They are IMHO far nicer in real life. :D

I have mentioned this too, I have six sets and I found one blue dragon that has about a 1.5mm x 1.25 mm chip on it looks like a grey paint under the blue, and I also have another blue one that looks like the paint sprayer was running out or something really bad scales and yellowish dots under the blue, obviously I can afford the sets I just think if they are charging high premiums sell a quality undamaged coin and if it is originating at the p mint they should cull the damaged ones. The distributer said he would replace them and they have shipped but i have not receioved them yet. I would have to say these are beautiful sets .
I have also hat a 2oz and 1oz of the chinese perth colored red dragons with chips through the paint down to the metal that looks like another coin damaged them or the mint equipment, considering how expensive these are this is very disapointing, it could be the chinese are just offloading the damaged ones on ebay so check very closely if you have any. I think it is BS, i would rather have a bullion version than a expensive colored version that is damaged.. I do like the ones that are not damaged... I have no idea if the paint will chip in the future and I have a feeling the damage was done in the minting or packaging process but I guess only time will tell...

one more thing ,you got to have pretty big stones to send them in to grade:):) you never know what is going to happen :) 1 guy i know sent one set in and almost threw up when he got it back ,like 4 out of 9 coins where ms64:( and at 16.50 a coin , you can easily throw money down the rat hole:) just as a note im not a grader but one of these ms 68 coins looks better than its ms70 sibling.............................. so this to put it politely is VERY SUBJECTIVE

I have to totally agree with the grades being subjective , I have seen many ms 69s and even 68s that had no obvious flaws and 70s (espescially ase's) that had very obvious flaws . When I have sent coins from the perth mint in I usually get 69s and 70s (unless the grading company scratches them which I have had happen a few times) and many times the 69s look better than the 70s, they might as well just flip a coin over it, heads 69 tails 70?? I think the grading is a bit of a crock on modern coins but I admit i still do it and i would rather have a 70 as well... as a side note I just got a ngc ms70 2012 gilded dragon that looked terrible, I cant believe they graded that a 70, milk spots, dings?? all the ones I have just in boxes look better than that.. so what am I supposed to tell the person that buys it from me?

Just to state I have 3 sets of these beautiful 9 dragons. COAs 3xx - so far no paint chipping etc. Bought directly from the distributor. They are really stunning when you see them. My feeling is these will appreciate in time. As someone mentioned these are specimen coins, not mere bullion and with sets limited at 20,000 the value is there.
