I'm on the look out for one at a decent price, but they're not that difficult to come by.

Yeah, they were suspended while the Perth Mint was upgrading their production facilities and never put back into production. They still churned out a fair number before shutting it down though.

so is it fair to say that the tiger would have been more heavily minted?

I'd say so, yes, but the tiger was/is in much greater demand as well.

I'm personally after the 2 oz of all the Series II Lunars. Dragon and Rabbit were easy to find but I'm having a hell of a time tracking down the other three. Mintages were pretty low, especially on the Mouse and Ox...

You should be right finding a 2oz Tiger. 2oz Ox is rarer but not that hard. Its the 2oz Mouse that's the issue. Only like 9,000 or so made and I've seen asking prices north of $300.00

As for the 5oz Rabbit.... how about the 5oz colorized? I've got a couple and I'm interested to see their mintage when the mint gets around to releasing the figures, less than 2,000 I would have thought.

Ahh ... but what is a decent price though?

EDIT: I should add, my thought is $260-70 is about right for a 5oz rabbit, compared with $300 for a tiger.

Well, a current year 5oz Dragon would set me back $208.60 (plus postage) if I were to buy it at retail from the Perth Mint, so I'd buy it from a friendly dealer instead for less than $200.

If I could get a 5oz Rabbit for under $240 all up, I'd be happy.

5oz dragons are available from Perth Mint (w/ delays) until around August next year with the price as a function of spot.

    So no, he isn't dreaming.

You can buy them right now? and just have to wait?
If a long term hold anyways than that is a great buy.

I guess you Australian folk do have some perks! $300+ anywhere in NA

A product you cannot order or buy could be $1 and it would still be a bad deal

5oz Dragons are NOT available from Perth Mint at the moment and they are not talking orders. Have a look at their website, all 5oz bullion coins are "unavailable"

That's because they're basically stopping new coin production (clearing backlog only) until January, which has already been announced.

But they're still going to be available up until the snake comes out next year.

I can get them through a dealer for Perth Mint prices but the wait time is 2 months+.

Not sure why anybody would justify paying $300 for something that is unlimited mintage with plenty of time to go.

Just because they're not immediately available NOW doesn't mean jack shit.

You can and will be able to get them in the future months.

I sold a bunch for just under 3 in the US, dealers here are nuts though. 350 area for a new coin

I'd say all the North American dealers are just looking at what Apmex is selling them for and using their prices as a guide. The 5oz Dragon will come back into production in Jan/Feb and the premiums will drop hard.

No... I did say "with delays".

If you want immediate delivery then $200 is almost impossible.

But wait 1-2 months and assuming spot is the same then highly likely.

Dragon mania is making a lot of people irrational, almost all the dragon premiums have come down after the initial upswing. Only a matter of time until the 5oz/2oz/.5oz comes down in prices.

Just like the 4 square, typeset, 9 coin set, proof, proof colored, gilded etc etc
