I see some dealers are advertising the upcoming colourised bullion versions of the Snake. Interesting that this has also been released regarding mintages of the coloured bullion coins: "Limited Mintage - The Perth Mint will release no more than the following green colored snake coins celebrating the 2013 Year of the Snake. 50,000 of the 1/2 oz 50,000 of the 1 oz 50,000 of the 2 oz 10,000 of the 5 oz 10,000 of the 10 oz 6,300 of the 1 kg" In the past if memory serves, all the coloured bullion coins were "mint to order" so could be minted in any quantity over the year so long as the Mint wanted to. In any event, the key word in this mintage is the word "green". It would seem there might be a plethora of coloured snakes upon us this year other than green!
^ I stand corrected, their were mintage limits on previous year coloured Lunars they were just much larger limits. 2011 Coloured Rabbit Size Limited Actual 1kg 7,000 2,069 10oz 5,000 888 5oz 20,000 5,028 2oz 40,000 4,676 1oz 170,000 44,078 1/2oz 170,000 53,372 2010 Lunar Tiger 1kg 7,000 1,112 10oz 5,000 1,029 5oz 20,000 6,287 2oz 40,000 5,033 1oz 170,000 57,912 1/2oz 170,000 62,358
But I would also caution that although these 2013 coloured limits seem low compared to the 2011 and earlier years, those years had ONLY ONE colourised version. As we saw with the 2012 Dragon, there were 10? colourised versions and the mintage limits above apply ONLY to the green coloured Snake. Thus no doubt there will be other other coloured Snakes and so the coloured mintage limits in total will be much higher.
just closed... 2006 color dog... interesting close for the week... http://www.ebay.com/itm/2006-CHINA-...D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557 http://store.singaporegoldsilver.com/pricehist/modern-china-coins-price.php?year=2006
The dragon was a one-off for the various coloured 1oz coins (Contained in the 9 and ten coin set etc). There's nothing to indicate in the Currency (Perth Mint) Determination 2012 (No. 1) (No. 2) or previous determinations except Determination 2011 (No 3) . Information regarding the snake says in Currency (Perth Mint) Determination 2011 (No. 3) SILVER YEAR OF THE SNAKE - BULLION COLOURED (Items 44 - 49) The design for the 2013 Australian Lunar Year of the Snake (1kg, 10oz, 5oz, 2oz, 1oz and 1/2oz) silver bullion coloured coins consists of a representation of a coloured snake entwined on a branch, surrounded by a pattern of lines. The coins include the inscriptions 'Year of the Snake' along with the Pinyin pictograph pronounced 'sh' and meaning 'snake'. http://www.comlaw.gov.au/Details/F2011L02779/Explanatory Statement/Text The large number of coloured dragon coins was minted by Perth at the request of Baoquan Coin Investment Co. Ltd. to celebrate The Year Of The Dragon which is very important to the Chinese and a lot more important than other lunar years. Having said that, there's many of us waiting for the next Currency Determination which is due this quarter. H
Not sure how this dog coin fits into this thread but it looks authentic and as such is 1 oz 999 silver (although as I say that I am thinking how can a colored coin be 999 silver?) now that I think about it are colored coins that say 999 silver deceptive?
Coloured coins are 1oz of .999 silver that has paint added after to certain points. So it's not deceptive.
If I hadn't just brought a set of bullion snakes I'd get this colored set, but I will definitely get atleast a 1oz
Is this sarcasm? Surely you cant be serious? If your serious the purchase your buying as a collector right? 1for1
I'm only interested in the snakes because I am a snake. Plus I know it's stupid but I would have been willing to pay the extra 130ish for the color, as I like it more
grab a series 1 snake much nicer and much better long term investment i am done with series 2 to hard to keep up with and every man and his snake, dragon, rabbit............has one
I'll get a few of the coloured snakes. IMHO the colorization looks great and at about $44 a coin is much cheaper colorization than other Perth Mint coins which are usually around the $100 mark.
