OOO-wwww…n-OOOOO! should be merged with this one https://www.silverstackers.com/forums/index.php?threads/fake-1938-crown.94643/
I just got an answer back from the seller which was The Auction Barn in Canberra I wanted to give them the opportunity to resolve this but they say the onus was on me to inspect the goods before I bid. So happy to let you know who it was an caution you to buyer beware on what they are selling.
Is there any recourse available. Is it a crime to sell counterfeit currency (crown is still considered legal tender)?
Had a similar incident with a fake 1938 crown at the local auction house. Luckily I picked it up on inspection prior to auction day. Auctioneer disclosed it was a suspected replica when that lot came up for bidding. Sold with a few other doubtful coins for $5 in the end. Cheer$
I would just agree with them that you should have checked sooner etc but ask nicely for the complete vendor details so you can refer them to the AFP as trading fake currency. Possibly might change their attitude slightly and may get a better result. Hopefully you didn’t pay top dollar for them. Cheer$
