A Youtuber decided to see what happens when a 1 kilo gold bar is crushed with a hydraulic press. What followed was priceless It appears that we have underestimated just how ignorant the general public remains about the intrinsic value of gold. Some of the best reactions include: This is illegalyou can't destroy money. This physically pained me. $40,000 $40,000. I would rather give it to charity He is wasting GOLD!!!! Who the f*** wastes a $40 grand block of gold like this?! Why waste money?! -Links to third party blogs removed
no need to go to a third party blog site to see it , it was originally on youtube on a account dedicated to crushing things https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RcxBfdyF7YY
Agree, link has been removed and member notified about posting further links to third party blogs. It's a clever marketing idea that has exposed Baird & Co brand to nearly 11m people. That's a good "waste" of "money" indeed.
Whatever it costs to melt, assay and recast the bar (plus cost of secure shipping+insurance both ways).
That's what I was thinking. Just leave it as it is. It's still a huge block of gold, so the shape doesn't matter that much. The video was neat, but did the world need an entire channel about stuff being crushed? It's far better than a Minecraft YouTube channel, but still.
That was one of the best viral marketing campaigns of all time, and was conceived by a professional marketing company, and the guy in the video is the founder, he's acting.
There are now many hydraulic press channels after people saw the success of the original. The one in question here is a copycat.
