Hi i would like to know your thoughts on gold panda proofs mainly 1/10 -1/4 sizes are they worth it i.e for an investment? What years are the best to look for? I have been searching the net and they seem to go for all sorts. In the same month you can find a coin go from 700 to 1300 dollars.

    Thanx

These gold proof sets are consistently undervalued in my opinion ,look at this one on e bay today ,pretty much at spot .....low mintage's................ I read somewhere these are not inexpensive in China ,but on average seem to sell for bargain prices in the US ebay 150915551122

I personally like proof gold coins.

Currently many China collectors do not understand the value of proof coins, be it Cu-Ni, silver or gold, and were largely ignored by them.

Of all the gold panda, 1/4oz is the least preferred in China.

1/10oz and 1/20 oz are the most in demand.

1/2oz is the most interesting. There is saying, if you get a complete set of 1/2oz gold panda, you have no problem of completing a full set of gold panda.

    "1/2oz"

are they any specific reasons to why those are in demand? i thought the fact of them having a low mintage would make it appealing for collectors/investors?

just a guess but the small fractional,s are less expensive in the non key years due to gold content ,that could be 1 reason ............ 1/4 oz Chinese very much dislike the #4 :) low can explain:) ,I believe that's why you see a fair amount of MCC 1/3 oz gold coins................ on the other hand some key year 1/10 oz panda,s are valued as much or more than their 1/ oz big brothers:) it,s very confusing:) at first.............
    I love the proofs also..........

Collectors generally goes for 1/20oz or 1/10oz because they are more affordable. These small coins were also used for jewelry.

1/2oz and 1/4oz are usually collected for the purpose of completing a year set. There probably are more 1/2oz set collectors than 1/4oz.

Gold bullion investor goes for 1oz.

For a year set, 1998 Shenyang gold is a mission impossible for 99.99% of collectors. I am not sure if that is the reason people chase the smaller denomination. One might not be able to complete a 1998 Shenyang gold set, but it is very possible to complete a set of 1/10oz of 1983 - 2012 (including the key 1998.)

The concept of complete set (however you define a set) is important to China collector.

you have to be patient and make offers:) 975 for a 1/4 is a realllllllllllllllll good price,if you paid a little more you would be ok ,there are a couple of sets on ebay including the bi metal that if interested you might be able to make a deal with the sellers off e bay:)

Never thought we'd see this! hah

Me too, love the proof sets and I agree with JC, they are undervalued... sell and save to get to where you want to be.

I have the '88 set its beautiful... Anything between '93 and '00 is a noble pursuit.

Now we're talking! Ahhh the proof bimetals, are there any sexier coins?? Target these because they are stunning, gorgeous low mintage issues that you will appreciate for years. Always thought the Chinese should've minted a platinum/gold bimetal series... hmm, perhaps a bit OTT?

Cepe, I bought this exact coin ( '94 1/10th ) in Shanghai from Mr.Panda himself. It's a beaut and a definite highlight to the collection. Mines flawless in OMP to the eye but it'll still grade 68 like most bimetals (so annoying ngc), I see yours is in capsule... how's the condition? Also mine never came with a box or coa though, what does yours say re: mintage?
