Hello, What are your opinions about the 1 oz Year of the Dragon Lion Privy Mark silver coins? I am especially interested in just about anything with a Privy Mark by Perth Mint. What do you think about this one? Worth collecting? They almost sold out entirely, so while I could still grab some, I thought: why not. But what do you think about rarity/numismatic value/potential of this version with the Lion Privy Mark? 200,000 were minted of the Privy Mark-bearing ones. It's quite a lot in my opinion, despite sellers saying it's "little".
It's the first Lunar Series 2 coin to have a pivy mark added, imo the first coins in any series can be very collectable.
Check other older threads as this topic received lots of comments. I obtained several of this coin at half the going rate of the non privy version which became relatively quite expensive.
Lion privy was a cheat way to circumvent the 300k mintage limit on lunars and thus pissed of a lot/(all??) of its potential customer base... these will always be looked at as "perthmint doing what perthmint does best". Also there is no way to collect whole set as mouse, ox, tiger and wabbit were not minted with privy (yet??) so IMHO worth whatever current year kooks are going for and no more
You are right, but the Lion seems to sit in a Star-Trek like shield/force-field, therefore seems invincible or, "non-edible"
Snake has "Bavarian Lion Privy Mark" and is available - 100,000 pieces minted. Here's a guide page on Perth Mint: http://www.perthmintbullion.com/blog/blog/13-01-24/2013_Silver_Bullion_Privy_Mark_Coin_Releases.aspx Personally, I am eyeing the 2013 Kookaburras with Snake Privy Mark. These have a mintage of 50,000. Prolly a better catch than the snake.
