If any one has any personal experience using a portable XRF brand I would love some feedback.
    Thanks

I have used both Niton & Olympus XRF's. The Olympus XRF's, in my opinion, are WAY better than the Niton's. As an added bonus, the customer service is excellent. They will give you a loan XRF if there are any issues, the parts are of a better quality and I have found the testing to be more accurate.

starting from $20K a pop, isn't everyone's pocket money... isn't Sigma new PMV do the similar thing? only with no element value(s) of the analysed metal?

It really depends what you want it for. If you are looking a purchasing scrap and want to do it properly, then an XRF is the best way to do it.

I'm not sure, but I had a feeling that the PMV wasn't suitable for jewelry?

I guess PMV is only for solid/flat items where jewellery has density variation due to style/design.. I guess ddevil is pretty much said it all, the main purpose of use
