Hi, I was wondering how many of you considered this: to put gold away for your elderly years. Regardless whether it goes to the Moon until then, you'd probably be glad you've stacked by the time you get old. Who can trust "pension funds"? Regardless whether state's or private... Money erodes and some states even mingle with private pension funds (like: they take it away). Do you stack for the sake of having you own "pension" fund in frozen hard assets? I personally find this a great idea!
I think that would be the main reason why most people stack, that or to pass it on to their children.
That's why I stack. I just hope I don't forget where I put it, or end up giving it to the future equivalent of Goldbuyers in the shopping centre.
I know many hold gold with a dragons clutch, however for me there is a time when it makes sense to move it into another asset class or classes. That time may or may not be retirement age. I don't think it's a great idea to have the view of just hold until you hit your retirement age or later. I think you need to view PM's in general as financial vehicle like any other. Having said that, I believe most of us agree, gold is quite different in many ways, but it's undeniable, it to has peaks and troughs. There will come a time when gold should be buying a house and vice versa.
I think it depends on how much ya stack is worth and your position... If it's a small stack and your on a pension then it makes sense to hold as security and slowly sell off as required. If your self funded retiree than a small stack for security sounds good. If your self funded retiree and it's a large stack I would prefer to swap out to a different asset class that provides an income stream, rather than hold an asset that is non-income producing. Ideally hold a large stack for security as well as diversified asset holding that provide an income stream. Cheers, Gollum...
