With the U.S still suffering from a very bad recession after five years and QE continuing for a while yet I am wondering if we will see something similar here in Oz..... Interest rates are being driven down nearly every month by the RBA and that is a sign things ar'nt going to well..... Will The Great Recession cross the seas and come to us in Oz?

No, because Tony Abbott is the new the Prime Minister so everything will be awesome from now on.

    Eventually, yes.

And when it does, I think the RBA would like a rate of 2 or 2.5% available to slash if required as a"stimulus". The norm seems to be about 0% or .25% and cannot really go any lower.

Three or four .5% cuts over 6 months would have a big effect.

    again, we shall see.

With nothing but borrowed money to play with, I doubt either party has a magic wand.

The socialists used up all the savings and petty cash tin. The next one will be a LOT more painful than the first.

Well now that QE is not being tapered that is proof that things are not going to improve in the U.S for at least another year.... If Abbott does'nt make some big changes soon I think we will spiral into a recession if we ar'nt already in one at the moment that is....

I think at least the westernised countries are going through some serious changes that are going to be set in permanantly in the next few years unless the labour rates are brought down to a more affordable level?

Just seems like everything is way too expensive in Oz at the moment and thats whats causing the problems?

I've seen a few articles mentioning negative interest rates in the future.

Mate, the more switched-on economists said more than a year ago that Australia's mining capex boom would be winding down in late 2013 and it was entirely possible we'd have a mild recession in 2014.

This has been on the cards for a long time, regardless of which flavor of politician is in office.

    No.

But the greatest depression known to mankind is unfolding before our very eyes. Sad but true.

Ye so things ARE really bad then....The U.S has 44 million unemployed....That's nearly double Oz's entire population...... There are some very serious problems with the U.S and theres nothing they can do except keep printing themselves into further decline..... Why don't they understand this?
