I can still pick up 1oz proofs for US $81 and the typeset for US $287 at Gainesville. Snakes are cool, right? With the sheep coming up next year (boring) and the horse being so popular this year doesn't it make sense that people will run for a cheaper alternative and pick up the snakes? Just my two cents. What do you guys think? Enjoy your weekend btw!
I dont know. Even the gold snakes are cheaper and always on sale. Crap design? The relgious hate snakes? I dono. But next year with the goat, for the first time in 4/5 years i know things wont sell out. And if i wait, it will all be on sale the next year lol.
Yeah, we still have the gold lunar snake here at an affordable premium over spot. Still hasn't sold out after a long time. Which is why I'm hesistant to start on the lunar series 2 compared to gold pandas which seem to be more loved.
You're right, snakes are cool but perhaps: 1) the Perth Lunar S2 snake design not appealing at all 2) too much competition with other (better) products in 2013 3) many or some people waiting for horse to spend more of their money 4) those who desire to have a Year of the Snake coin could have bought the silver Fiji Gilson Opal Lunar Snake instead:
Snake is sandwiched between two of the most popular lunar animals (dragon and horse). The price differential between the horse and snake will narrow over the years.
The SII snake is a nice coin but it really suffers in comparison to SI. 2013 Lunar Snake by TomD77, on Flickr 2001 Lunar Snake by TomD77, on Flickr
The S2 snake design is so much better than S1. And if I could find some gold S2 snakes, Id buy 'em. Only reason I can think that the snakes arnt selling, maybe the negative stigma of the term 'snake', dont know.
The snake will have its day to shine. Following the dragon is a tough situation. There was so much lunar saturation and to a degree lunar fatigue set in. Give it a few years and this one will be sought after IMHO.
I'm currently cashing in and purchasing as much of the snake range as possible, bullion and proofs. Whilst they are "cheap" i'm wanting them! They won't be low priced forever. I'll have to get the Horse as quickly as possible too. Don't want the premiums going up heading into next year.
Gainesville had the .5oz proof horse coins for about $18.50USD today. I got tied up on a phone call for 1.5 hours and by the time I got off the call, it was too late to post about the deal. They still have the 3 (2,1 & .5oz) coin horse proof set for about $260USD. My guess is that Gainesville is cleaning out the horses to make way for the goats.
