Is the Alpha Strategy you're talking about written by John A. Pugsley?

So in other words minimise paper holdings and stack up on things you can buy now and as much of them to prevent feeling the effects of inflation?

Way off the mark with what I'v been talking about. I must be a terrible communicator.

    Absolutely useless :D

I meant more the message of why certain aspects of what we take as normal now will not be normal in the future.

The second half of the book is a discussion about ways to prepare.

Back to the essence of your question in the opening post. You were asking about what is an appropriate "alternative system". Most of my discussion has been that we don't actually need an alternative way of structuring society. Yes, we may (or may not) need to move to alternative ways of living but largely I was arguing that the system is (largely) fine and will deal with whatever is thrown at it (the flexibility and adaptiveness to scarcity and demand is its foundation). What we really need to to remove the elements that currently seem relatively benign or manageable but which will be detrimental to the system adapting. Besides the monetary system the gradual encroachment of Governments into Liberal Democratic society is the biggest barrier to changing to what's needed.

Best argument I heard - "In nature, there is no right nor wrong, merely consequences."

It's so much classier blowing your cash on metals than beer and hookers.

I really like your signature quote perthsilver.

Is there any chance you could change it to 'they're' though? :)
