Last night when Silver went through the $31 mark, I found myself doing a Browser Refresh about every 30 Secs ( Bet I wasn't the only one. LOL) And when things are moving fast I noticed the browser refresh time was getting a bit long, so the server must have been busy.
So today I sat down and wrote a small program that will pull down the prices without getting in the way of other things Im doing. Thought a few of you might also like to try it out.
I have written it as a "Stay-on-top"application, so you can stay on whatever your doing and just park it in a corner of your screen.. You can set it to pull down what you want, and you can set it from 3 windows to a maximum of 10 - Anything shown on the Kitco Market screen can be pulled down.
Its easy to set up - Basic Instructions shown when you click the setup box

Might come in handy tonight if Prices start going north. Have alread set it up for Exchange Rate, Gold and Silver - You can change these to what you want in order you want.
On Exit it saves all your settings so it will always come up the way you left it..
Have Fun - I'll be watch prices closely tonight.

If you have java installed, you can use the silver spot price graph. Its in real time and interesting to watch the ticks or 1minute graphs with 1000 points =D.

This looks like a fantastic little program.

Could I possibly encourage you to write a similar program as a Chrome/Firefox plugin?

Noticed in the Program the Exchange Rates were getting out of sync, have found the reason, If the rates go uo it inserts a "up.gif" if rates fall it inserts a "down.gif",
The names are different lengths - that's why its always a displacement of 2 Characters.
So that it whats causing trouble with the exchange rates - Now that I know what problem is I think I can program around it.
So bear with me - I will post a updated copy as soon as I sort it out.

    <p><img src="/images/down.gif" border="0">&nbsp;ZAR/USD</td>
    <p><img src="/images/down.gif" border="0">&nbsp;Euro/USD</td>
    <p><img src="/images/up.gif" border="0">&nbsp;SF/USD</td>
    <p><img src="/images/down.gif" border="0">&nbsp;BP/USD</td>
    <p><img src="/images/up.gif" border="0">&nbsp;RMB/USD</td>
    <p><img src="/images/down.gif" border="0">&nbsp;Yen/USD</td>

Found a problem last night - When Exchange Rates rise or Fall they change the position of the data in the source File.
I have made changes to the program to fix this, program will detect these changes and compensate for it.
Only a few changes needed in the setup section - Have included a few notes there.

    Download link still the same

To be honest - I wouldn't have a clue how to do that - When it comes to writing or interfacing with another platform, I'm hopeless.
I just like pottering about and learning as a hobby - Keeps me out of Pubs. LOL

Download a fresh copy - That problem been fixed - When index goes from moving up to moving down - data shifts 2 spaces.
    I fixed this today.

As for the 2 silver titles - just go into setup and type your own titles

I had similar issues. Good app, but more testing I reckon would iron out the bugs.

I just had a thought, the program stores its setup data in a small INT File when you exit it, so if you exited without adjusting it in setup the bad data will be stored in INT File,
When you place a fixed copy of program in same directory it will load the same bad data and still look like its broke.. So you will have to go into setup and manually change it, Its real simple, by the look of the screen you show you have start Number set to 106, just click it down to 104 and all should be right. - and while there fix the two Silver Entries in Title - they are manual entries
    Here's how my setup looks

As you can see I have added a timer routine to it so it can be set to Auto Refresh every minute, I left it running all night with all Ten windows open, it was still okay this morning. ( That's the extent of my testing.) I uploaded the one with Auto Refresh this morning - It is OFF by default.

The Only one that WILL give trouble a few times a month is the GSR - it has a long form Date in front of it 'File created at 10:45:24 on Wed January 5 2011' so whenever the date changes from a single digit to a double digit it will push the GSR data along a space, and when month changes will push it even further - To many combination's, not worth the trouble to program around it. when it happens it only takes a couple of seconds to go and reset the start point, and as date doesn't change during the day - Its no big deal.

Just noticed in Picture Box5 length should be set to 5 not 9 (More Sloppy Work) LOL

That's quite cool. I've been thinking of doing something actually but maybe a webpage. Something which has all the ratios, graphs, everything else I want in one simple dashboard view. Don't even know if there's ways to programmatically get all the info I want though. Probably multiple ugly formats out there, little in the way of web services for what I would want or even worse having to do screen scrapes (yuk).

Maybe one day I'll get around to it...

btw, professional curiosity, what language and IDE are you using Sticks? Any chance for source code? :)

I'm using Borland Delphi 4 Std (It was a free giveaway CD on a Computer Magazine some years ago.)

Your concept of a One Stop all in One place Program is what I'm trying to do, Im writing it to satisfy my needs, but are willing to share it with anyone else who may find it helpful. That little utiliy was just a quick knock'up job to see if I could pull up the info I needed,, it seems to work reasonable well - So have put it into my main program.
Here is link to Download latest version, Is this the sort of program you are thinking of ?.

Would be interested in hearing your views on what program should aim for.

As for Source Code, you sound like your involved in Programming, I'm not, - Had no Book learning at all, So if you expecting well structured and commented code - Sorry - My code looks like a Thesis written in Crayon.

Delphi Standard came without any Inernet Protocols, and due to Royalty issues it was designed not to handle Gif files, so I have added a lot of Third Party Components to overcome these shortcomings- So unless you hav a setup with same addons you will be unable to run or compile my source code. But if you only want to read code to see how I did it, just PM me and give an email address and i can email code to you.

Edit : Just noticed your email address is listed.
