OK ! we are going to train 18year old kids for a job. Well what about the 200,000 Car Industry employees that will loose their jobs when the plant closure of Ford, Holden and Toyota, what will they do..Not a bloody mention of the problems that Australians will face in the near future.

Another shock for doctors..No increase for bulk billing:) No wage increase for 4 years. It's only fair.

Todays budget is a lecture on how well the government is doing....Budget presentations years ago would go into more detail with actual figures. :)

Was it $500mil to save car industry, but $100billion to produce subs in Aus?

Seems like an electoral Pyne, life preserver to me.

Yep Malcolm must want to get rid of all the 5 cent industries, relatively speaking.
Exactly what are we transitioning to, hollowing out manufacturing as the dollar drops and it becomes profitable again?

If I'm looking at 2 identical products, and one says made in Germany, and the other says made in... Anywhere else, I'll more than likely buy the German version of it. I have full faith that their industries product a great product, engineered for its use.

What is to stop Australia becoming that? Why won't the government sink some money into Australian industry for a change? We have most of the shit here to make anything, spend the money on the training, spend the money on linking industry via rail etc, and make Australia a powerful manufacturing country again.

Or maybe just pay the French to do it?

The dumbing down of Australia resulted an electorate that wants simplistic statements that pander to their self-interest, and easily identifiable targets of blame. Obviously the budget was mostly unfunded promises based on unrealistic assumptions about future growth. The reality is that the government will keep borrowing at record levels and will blow the money.

Because the misallocation of capital that occurs when governments enter the market (either through legislation or infrastructure spending) with bundles of other people's money creates distortions that drive malinvestment in what ever industry the government is targeting at the expense of what ever industry does not have the attention of the government.

Australia won't be a powerful manufacturing country until the incentives for business is there, and that won't happen because we can't compete with the cheap labour of the Asian countries, or the technological capacity and customer base of the the advanced economies. The pill we need to swallow is unpalatable for most to bear - so forget about an Australian manufacturing industry and enjoy the benefits of cheap Asian TVs and luxury European cars etc, all of which are more accessible to Australian consumers than ever before - which in the end is the only criteria that matters.

    Devil in the detail:

Not to mention the complete and total waste of 100 million to run a vote on equal rights marriage. How about a plebiscite on politician's perks and downsizing government!

This is a fallacy, there is no cost in reducing the tax rate. There is a reduction in revenue, but there is no cost.

Seems like that funding for the Great Barrier Reef is coming out of the Green army/Landcare programs....Smoke and mirrors ?
