What if Ben lives and works in a rural area with no public transport and few job choices? And please don't tell me that you think Ben should move somewhere else.
^ +1 I used to live 45kms from work and spent an hour and half EACH TRIP to work. This is not accounted the tolls I used to pay ($12 per day), petrol, time waste on the road. The only thing I didnt pay was parking in the city.
It depends if Ben is the one complaining or not. The article heading makes it sound like having a job is bad/costs too much. If he is, he can at least stop buying the coffees and food everyday.
+1 I used to drive 60km each way to work (freeway km's). Public transport was not an option, and the money was too good to refuse. Did it for 5 years, and the drive was quite relaxing.
What gets me is that they put the two chai lattes down as 'a cost of holding down a job' gtfo! Have two glasses of water and shut up
Always amazes me how people buy shit then turn around and bitch about how expensive it is. If Ben is unhappy with his position Ben should change his situation. Because no one else will.
I'm thinking people didn't follow the link. Also, I don't think "Ben" is whinging, the article is about how much people spend as a part of earning an income. Yeah, the lattes are a luxury and not directly a part of his job but still, that's not the point of the article. Or am I reading it wrong?
Driving to work is a cost of living not a cost of work. Many choose to live far from their workplace as an investment in lifestyle. Would rather drive 100km round trip each day and live in paradise than a shithole. Not that I have to drive that far any more - work is a 7 min drive from where we live. Not even any time to relax
