We will still have midwives, they might not be paid by the socialised health service but they will still be private operators.

There will be increased requirements for abortionists.

I LOVE Spam! Especially Spam burgers. It's also ok with fried egg on rice. I wouldn't make a habit of eating it though unless I was desperate.

Surprisingly something like 70% of nitrite comes from vegetables such as spinach, lettuce, radishes etc and another 10% comes from swallowed saliva.

Also... "the study that originally connected nitrates with cancer risk and caused the scare in the first place has since been discredited after being subjected to a peer review. There have been major reviews of the scientific literature that found no link between nitrates or nitrites and human cancers, or even evidence to suggest that they may be carcinogenic. Further, recent research suggests that nitrates and nitrites may not only be harmless, they may be beneficial, especially for immunity and heart health."

On the upside, if you can attach another oxygen molecule to your nitrite, you can derive explosives.

Depending on how long the crisis lasts, I would suggest the following:

Alcohol (stick with the more popular spirits), tobacco products, coffee, sugar, fuel (petrol, diesel, propane, etc), matches, disposable razors and shaving lotion, toothbrushes, toothpastes, floss, mouthwash, toilet paper, glue, epoxy, and duct tape.

While a lot of things could become valuable in a crisis, you should stick to things that:

    1. Have a high consumer demand
    2. Are not easily manufactured at home
    3. Are durable in storage
    4. Are divisible in small quantities
    5. Have authenticity - ie they are easily recognizable (Jack Daniels as compared to some micro distillers own brand)

    Guns and ammo.
If you have those two things and some manpower you can take or negotiate whatever else you want/need.
    Especially in Australia

Forget storing food, lead, coffee, alcohol, tobacco, seeds, water, batteries, matches, LPG, petrol, generators, rice, canned goods, fishing rods, maps, first aid kits, bio hazard suits, tin foil hats, bows and arrows, portable radios etc. etc. etc.

There is only 1 thing you need to stock up on and that's 'female hygiene and sanitary products' think soap, tissues, toothpaste, deodorant, perfume, pads, skin moisturiser, tampons, tissues, shampoo, conditioner, toilet paper, tissues, lip balm, facial wipes, nail files, washing machine power, fabric softer, hair spray, oh! did I mention tissues, lots of tissues, don't know why but they need lots and lots of tissues.

Believe me you don't want to not stock this and give it a week and any man in the street will trade his sole for any of the above.
