Hi all! This seems to be an appropriate section to post my topic. I'm wondering what else besides PM's could become very sought after when the piblic realizes the good times are definately over and the world is in a big crisis. Of course essentials like food and energy will always be in demand, but I'm interested in things that are not mainstream now, like PM stacking, because the smaller the market now, the easier to get into it. I'm thinking stuff for growing your own food, stuff for getting off the grid etc. what else?

    Thanks. :)

Hello quarterounce, welcome to the forum.
Toilet paper, it doesn't go off, you can light fires, roll it down hills, play hansel and gretel or even use it as intended. You just need to keep it dry.
I think you should become the toilet paper king.

Food primarily. medicines, even asthma puffers and the like. Then tobacco, coffee & alcohol people will still have addictions to feed, I know I would trade 1/10 oz silver for a good coffee, after that you have amassed the wealth to raise an army then we'll obviously Moon!!

I own a lot of lead.

Very useful if you want to catch some fish. I would imagine them being useful in a collapse if people want to fish from the shore =D.

dont forget the molds etc to make the sinkers. All the REAL gear that you would actually need will be priceless if it ever occurs . I have made my own sinkers for years from wheel weights or lead flashing i got at the recyclers .Im shocked at how expensive sinkers are to buy from a shop .

Actually I found it cheaper to import the wholly made sinkers from china. I own alot of grapnel sinkers, with retractable legs on them. Can be used for beach fishing, fishing off wharfs and rocks. Playing with lead is quite dangerous, the fumes and stuff. I try to avoid it where I can.

I also agree tools are invaluable, I own alot of quality tools that allows me to make a good range of things from sliding rigs (stainless steel) to fishing rod building. I think knowledge and having a few tricks up your sleeve to become self sufficient would be a plus.

BTW, the AUD has tanked, it will cost me more to import the same batch of sinkers. I probably should increase my prices as it will cost me more to replace them. Interesting that I can play the exchange rate buying sinkers lol.

Arable, defensible land. Tools and seed to work the earth. Spices, salt, vinegar and glassware to preserve food for winter. Bellows, hammer and anvil. Books. Skills such as glass working, carpentry, construction, and the hand tools to do it. Copper wire, magnets, and the knowledge of how this can produce electricity.

Most importantly of all, the loyalty of a few strong and intelligent people.

As fuel becomes scarcer the prices of imported items will be rising. I am planting a few easy-to-grow non essentials. None of these will be worth burning my house down or attacking me for but all will provide a few luxuries which can be sold locally throughout the whole year.

We are on a small plot, about 500 square metres max and that includes the house and patio area.

Many of these are in pots or around the edge of the garden.

With any luck sunlight and rain water will still be the only thing you can get free in Australia so other than keeping the bugs down and keeping the feed up it should be a fairly cheap enterprise.

    Vanilla
    grapes
    Chocolate
    Coffee
    Tea
    Turmeric
    Garlic
    Ginger
    Clove tree
    Cinnamon tree
    Bay Tree
    Peppercorn
    Cardamon
    Chili peppers
    Lavender
    Fig trees
    Olive trees
    Lemon Tree
    Kumquat tree
    Orange tree
    Lime tree
    Pink Grapefruit tree
    Mandarin tree
    Blood orange tree
    Chestnut tree
    Moringa tree
    Allspice tree
    Avocado tree (waste of space)
All the usual herbs that everyone has
Some of the leaf vegetables that the caterpillars haven't beaten us to
Plenty of the obscure herbs than no one has because they don't taste very nice
    Capsicums

The trees should be in full production within the next six years, I save the seeds each year and raise my own seedlings, we compost all the organic waste we bring into the house as well as anything from the garden, we collect rainwater and there is a market stall which will trade my plants for theirs, which is handy.

Not a 100% survival plan in itself but part of the overall scheme, I read somewhere that you need 15 olive trees to provide all the eating olives and oil for one family, however one lime tree gives us all the limes we need for a year but I think I will need to knock the street down to provide all the coffee beans we need for a year, we have one bush so maybe we can each get a cup for Christmas.

By planting trees you cut down on a lot of the workload associated with tending gardens, saves replanting seeds every year and they are less susceptible to being stolen.

If you are talking about a proper SHTF currency/economic crises then the best things to have would be 'stuff' like lighters, alcohol, food, tobacco , water, candles, batteries, spam, etc

this topic has been done to death here,

in a true SHTF crisis silver / gold wont be worth anything, and will be more of a hindrance trying to lug around with you.

Well i think a severe economic depression and collapse of some fiat currencies, stock markets, bonds are inevitable.

However i dont foresee an apocalypse where everything will be wiped out. Just look at history, plenty of nations had depressions and hyperinflation, but it didnt send them back to the stone age.
