I am trying to find out the official AU-US dollar exchange rate, but each site I look at gives me a different answer, for example OzForex says 1.0145, another site says 1.024. When I hear an exchange rate mentioned on the media for example, where do they get their figure?

There is no "official" exchange rate, just the going rate in the market(s).

I use the OzForex rate because that's who I'd be using if I was exchanging currency for real.

http://www.goldprice.org/silver-price.html i find to be a useful chart, you can go from ticks to monthly, has every major currency pair as well as a bunch of other instruments and commodities, it's like a much more advanced version of the basic charts at the top of the forum
