What condition should I expect my Perth Mint silver bar to be?

First Up, this bar has some weird "wave" effect. Unfortunately the camera does not do it justice.

Next, obvious enough - just ugly....

Finally, it looks as though someone stole 1 gram with this tool shaped dent.

If you use this product, it should come up quite nice!

Haggai makes me glad I never bought.
MrSteve reminds me of the superiority of old cartoons.

Original Poster here, forgive my for allowing this to be built up so much. I've just taken a photo, clicked the upload button and receive a message saying I don't have permission to use the feature.

However, I can see from the photos posted recently that there's nothing spectacularly bad about my bars. I'll upload the photo once I know how to gain the permission.

The Perth Mint poured bars are not the sort of product that is treated tenderly. After casting they are just stacked directly on each other, will jingle around in a box when transported. That's why they have dings and scratches on them. Main criteria is that it weights right.

Just like models on magazine covers, looks like our silver bars were a bit too vain and asked for too much retouching for their website images :)

Ah - anti spam feature for new members - can't upload images for first 7 days.

Email it and I'll post it.

some of my kilo bars have a weird checkered patten on them that looks cool when it catches light. Every single one has a birth mark too.

They look just like the ones in the picture on the website!

Not great but not ugly, if mine look like that when they arrive I will be ok with it though I know I won't be able to resist trying to polish out a few of the smaller scratches.

They are in better nick than some I've seen.

The problem is an image like this:

Sets the expectation that the bars are perfectly flawless. I suspect that image has been tidied up in image editing software.

Kinda like this "ad vs reality" image :)

That is a beautiful looking bar! Just like the picture my wife saw before she decided to go with a poured bar over a minted one.

So you don't think it is just down to a perfect pour and handling with cotton gloves?

I must say before this website I thought all silver looked like this

Something to remember is that silver is an incredibly soft metal - tap two silver bars together and see what happens.

I dont know about anyone else, but the PM bars are great warts and all. A nice 10oz bar in the hand feels great... Last comment sounds a bit like the start of a bad joke ;p . But anyway its all good imo.

I suppose we could say the bars have "character" or "history". :p
