What condition should I expect my Perth Mint silver bar to be?

I have just received two 10oz silver bars from Perth Mint. Both are well worn with lots of chips and marks. Nothing on the Perth Mint website led me to believe I would receive silver in this condition.

    Is this normal?

I believe it is, have you seen the pictures of Big Macs?, have you seen a Big Mac? Same thing. That beautiful smooth highly polished bar is what draws you in. The piece of crap you end up with is why I prefer minted items.

Anyway I have just bought my first 10oz bar from the Perth Mint and I suspect i am going to be dissapointed as well!

Please post a picture of them, in the same angle as the one on the website, I will do the same, then we can put together a sliding scale of what we receive and we can describe it easier!

Thanks for the response J. I know they buy bullion but didn't expect it to be onsold to me in that condition. Your typical 30 year old 10 cent piece is in better condition than what I've received.

I'd be interested to hear from others who have received silver bars from the Perth Mint.

RE The photo - will do...

There have been some complaints about the condition of these bars, which is why I have never bought them.

Though I hear there are worse from other smaller companies pouring their own.

Minted for me, even if Liz's head is on it :(

I want to contribute to this challenge.

Maybe we can turn this thread into - Post a photo of your ugliest Perth Mint bar.

OK, I'm getting the idea that receiving clearly second-hand bars from the Peth mint is normal?

I wouldn't expect them to re-melt / re-assay / re-pour or re-weight them when they buy them back, or even polish them.

I just hoped that with the massive amount of silver being sold recently they would have gotten rid of all the old stock and would need to freshly pour mine today.

    Guess not.

Yeah, fair enough. I'm guessing if you walked in off the street you might be able to ask for a new one.

Looks like the previous owner of mine has walked around with them in his back pocket for the last 10 years.

Our last bar was a right shocker - dents, lumps and milky streaks. would still be a kilo and still made of silver tho...
most others have been ok and a couple really good ones.

I walked around the Perth Mint once, I didn't buy anything but I saw some of the bars and they looked OK to me, I am guessing the ones on display in the gift shop are the pick of the crop and the ones you get are kept in a skip around the back.

To be perfectly honest, I just prefer the PM bars. Nice to hold, no worries about tarnishing them when holding.

That said I've got a few horrible looking kilo bars from them!

At AMPEX they say up front if they're scuffed or chipped, heck, they even sell 'em for a bit less.

How do I get a picture in a post once I upload it? I've asked and people just tell me how to upload it, which I have already done. Thanks a ton
