Thought it would be a good idea for numismatics in SS to start a thread where you can say what youre into and if someone comes accross it you can swap with him/her. I'll start with myself I'm on the lookout for anything from Bosnia (country that i'm originally from) thats made from silver. Maybe one of you has something from there maybe not but point is if we do get it we can talk about a swap. So tell us what you're ussually after

I dont know if it would interest you, but I picked up a mexican coin the other day, its the 1968 olympics one... not in perfect condition or anything. No scratches, just a few black marks that I imagine would come off easily.

Yeah thats primarily why I got it, it just caught my eye in the coin shop, and I thought it was a good buy at $20... I was just guessing though so I was happy when I got home and found it had a 1/2oz in it.

    Yo did very well,A!

I paid spot for mine ,or a bit more. There are actually some variations in the coin.Type II has lower rings on the Olympic symbol and Type III has the serpents tongue curving ,rather than straight

Don't you just love the intricacies of numismatics?

(bet it will go awfuwy quiet in here now) :)

with numismatics its weird you can get a coin thats has a very low mintage like 15k and yet ppl only willing to pay spot for them when they are wworth way more like a coin i'm bidding on now 18k mintage and few of them the seller is selling and yet price is below spot still with not much to go

Again ,thanks ..but I have all three types. The set might be valuable ,one day.

With numi's I think you have to just go with your instincts ..let the world catch up with your lead :)

I have just bought a 9 coin set of 1977 Bahamas proof coins. Four coins contain silver with asw of 2.8723oz for what I consider the bargain price of $85.

I have been lucky to get hold of a lot of proof sets at below spot and there are some beautiful silver coins amongst them. Some of the non silver coins are interesting and beautiful too.

    Regards Errol43

Constantinople and Egypt than paying SPOT + 50% at least !!!

Also if anyone has 2 Coronas from the Austria-Hungarian Empire please send me a PM - ( offering SPOT + 25% on the spot )

As a newbie to this forum what is your opinion of the $40 Emu Palladium coin (1995-1998). Palladium and Platinum took a big hit this past week and with the destruction of so many cars in Japan we are going to need a lot of palladium and platinum to rebuild. Further these coins are pretty rare and when they appear on e-bay at a reasonable price ($880-$1000) they are gone in hours. I have been searching e-bay for several months now and there are only 4 or 5 constantly on at $1500 +. Even Downies and Edlins auctions dont have them anymore ? Remember as a coin there is no GST. Any thoughts.

Yeah interesting comment, low mintage as you say don't always equate to high prices. The overriding factor IMHO is population. Find a rare modern mintage from a high population base like China. 1996 proof Panda is a good example. Hard to get anything under $1k these days.

Im assuming that you are referring to the human population and not the coin 'population'.

Still, dabbling with Chinese coins is risky - maybe not, but people at large will 'assume' its risky and wouldnt touch chinese coins.

Low mintage chinese coins, are only for Uberexperts or chinese collectors !

The coins Argentum talks about are low mintage coins from countries like Andorra, the Bailiwick of Guernsey, Kiribati and stuff like that.
