    A hobby is something enjoyable to relieve stress in your spare time i believe ... all i can see is raised blood pressures here ...hardly an enjoyable pastime :lol: YMMV .

    Im here for the witty banter . But unfortunately theres not much of that in this thread . Its "Im right you are wrong" As far as im concerned you are all argueing semantics & everyone is right in their own mind . Beliefs are a very strong thing this thread is testament to that . :) please continue to show us your self proclaimed superior debating skills. Its interesting to see the inner workings of other peoples minds . :p:

    This forum has exposed me to more ideas than the witty banter I get from my physical friends. Even though I couldn't stand the guy's online personality in the end, I'm indebted to auspm for pointing me toward Ayn Rand. Probably couldn't stand his real presence either if I ever met him, not that I can talk hey W&F? ;)

    I agree theres so many different viewpoints & opinions here its definitely broadened my knowledge base over the years ..thats why im still here ...although i might not agree with it it certainly gives food for thought and keeps the mind active . Like you my friends in oz just go over the same ground again & again it was getting to the point where i was having bets in my head about when who was going to bring up what topic lol.

    Ayn rand ? whos that ? sounds like some crackpot with an idiotic theory about a utopia that will only exist in her imagination ? Im just guessing because ive never read any of her works but garnered enough info from others posts here to come to that conclusion .I prefer fact over fiction .

    I can read facts all day but fiction leaves me empty after 5 minutes as just another load of crap concocted in someones boredom . I'd rather go fishing or riding my bike :)

    Seconded. Much as we can disagree, I've learnt more in my short time on this forum than any other I've been on, and welcome my perceptions being challenged in the (mostly) rational way it is here.

    I didn't know one political party from the other before I came to Silver Stackers, now I realise that they are both the same anyway, but at least I know this, before I just thought I was ignorant.

    You do learn a lot, particularly if you take the view that if someone is wrong about one thing, they might be right about another, which is why I read posts from people who I think are 100% deluded, maybe they are only 99% deluded and the other 1% could save me.

    Go placidly amid the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence.
    As far as possible without surrender be on good terms with all persons.
    Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even the dull and ignorant; they too have their story.
    Avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are vexations to the spirit.
    If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain and bitter;
    for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.

    Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.
    Keep interested in your career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.
    Exercise caution in your business affairs; for the world is full of trickery.
    But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals;
    and everywhere life is full of heroism.

    Be yourself.
    Especially, do not feign affection.
    Neither be critical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment it is as perennial as the grass.

    Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
    Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with imaginings.
    Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness. Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself.

    You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars;
    you have a right to be here.
    And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

    Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be,
    and whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul.
    With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be careful. Strive to be happy.

    I grew up with this poem on the back of my dunny door. It was great for constemplation

    If this was the 1st or 2nd time you misunderstand what I clearly say, I wouldn't bother explaining it again. But it's not even the 5th time. The number is far greater. You are constantly "confusing" things and "misunderstanding" my statements, twisting them in your favour.

    So I will just tell you this: READ MY POSTS AGAIN. Take your time, read them as many times as you need. Then we talk.

    I won't even read the rest of your post until we pass this step.

    That's an astonishing hypocrisy. If it's a positive number, you step forward and claim it's yours by right. If it's negative, you step back and whistle slantwise while saying that's the creditors' problem.

    Another beautiful death end of the liberals worth adding to the list for future reference.

    ??? It's not hypocritical at all. You must believe that it is the right of creditors to be bailed out if their debtors default.

    This looks like you don't pay attention to the context in which the words are used.

    When I said "rightful owner" I was talking about the law (or what eventually should be law), not entitlement in the sense of what's fair or not. I meant that. Bordsilver got that. Only you insist on "confusing" things over and over again.

    If you're the boss of a group of people that do some work and when they do it right you say to your boss you are the responsible for that but when they do it wrong to tell your boss it's not your fault, isn't this hipocritical?

    Your answer: "Not at all. You must believe that it is the right of my employees to try to correct their mistakes whenever they get the chance."

    My reaction: ???

    Now you have lost me. We're talking about who bears the pain in event of a debt default. Answer = The creditors (as always - unless you're GoldmanSachs in which case the Government will bail you out).

    Creditors having the right to pursue the property of other people UNRELATED TO THE LOAN in the event of a default is crazy. If this was possible I'd be lending money out to anything with a pulse because I've essentially lost all downside risk.

    Yes, that's crazy...as much as other people UNRELATED TO THE WEALTH accumulated by a man through his OWN work to end up getting that wealth.

    But, even more crazy than that, is to dare think one should be the rightful owner of a death man's wealth if it's a positive number, but if it's a negative number all of a sudden he has nothing to do with that. That's doublestandard.

    In Portugal you need to apply for a bequest in case there is no will. And if the bequest ends up to be a negative number you must pay the bill. You can't say "now the bequest is not convenient for me anymore. I will step aside".

    In this case, the downside risk of the creditors is if the man has no descendants to assume the debt.

    Personally, as you might have already understood, I am totally against ANY positive or any negative appropriation of other man's wealth. Every person should only get the wealth conquered with his own work.

    Bequests are even worse than Solialism. At least Socialism is taking from the rich to give to the poor.
