I really am interested in learning more about Sovereigns. Was pretty excited when this thread opened, to no avail. Nothing, Nada, Zero.
Seems like such a waste as I'm sure there are plenty of people with plenty of knowledge to share

I've been waiting also so I could learn more, as well as hoping some would turn up in the sale sections. Aah well, there is a time for every purpose...

I know a lot of people here hold 'em but I don't think they're particularly high-volume trade as you say... People get personal with em - I know I do...

Do you have all the standard reference points such as cruzis etc? If not I can post up some links...

There's no shortage of Sovereigns available for sale; just no one is prepared to sell their better grades for what stackers here has been conditioned to pay.
There is a big difference in valuation between a VG grade and EF grade even with Sovereigns that have high mintages. However everyone wants EF grade for VG prices.
Bullion dealers and coin dealers loves these people who sell their Sovereigns to them at spot or below spot. The best grades of Sovereigns are onsold to coin collectors for big premiums.
The lower grades are resold at today's current price of around $410
Who in his right mind would sell a Canadian or Indian mint-marked Sovereign for $410?
    Anyone feeling generous? :)

No one expects sellers to sell Indian, Canadian or rarer sovs at these prices. But i will not personally pay a 20%+ premium just to have an EF grade common sovereign. What i am saying is that there is limited choice of lower grade sovs at the moment.

But other than your good self, there hasn't been much sovereign action around the sales thread (one came up tonight after a long drought).

Seriously though, let me know when you go through and grade some of your recent haul or when you get new stock in Steve.

    Thanks.

Sorry Byron, not ready to start selling my recent acquisitions just yet.
Hem9 seems to have a few bargain priced Sovereigns on offer at the moment. A pic would be nice but even if the coins are only Fine grade that's still a very fair ask.
Someone also picked up a bargain priced proof half Sov off Vangbac tonight.

There are Sovereigns collectors that want a full set of all the different mintmarks.
I have lost count of all the collectors that ask me to call them when I come across one.
1918 was the only year they minted the Sovereign in India and I wouldn't be surprise if most of that particular mintage is tightly held in Indian hands.
Be very surprised if you can pick one up for less than $500 today.

Nope dude, Those 1918 sovereigns were minted in India, but never came to market.
And Most of them were taken by the British with them after Independence.
Here in India, you won't be able to find them even more than $500. :D

    Thanks for that info.
I wrongly assumed the reason for their scarcity; that they were all in Indian hands.
Maybe a Sovereign expert here can solve the puzzle.
    Cheers :)

    An interesting fact
" The Bombay mint only produced coins for one year and all are dated 1918. Nonetheless, the Indian mint struck more sovereigns (approximately 1.3 million) in its single year of operation than the Ottawa branch managed in more a decade."
    From Wiki :)
