Saw this old newspaper reference on Twitter. The claim is that the real issue is one of compulsion, and that the census is a tool of central planning. Was the Workers Party back then more Libertarian?

    What year is that?

Must be some time before 1989 considering the reference to USSR.

The Workers Party was the Libertarian party at that time. They were more Libertarian than the LDP and had members like John Singleton on board at the time (indeed he was one of the key drivers). I think they petered out in the early 80's. For some reason I seem to remember that Lang Hancock was somehow related to it (or maybe he was just a fan :/ ). I believe they initially started with a bunch of disenfranchised Liberals who were disgusted at the increasing socialism of the party.

Here you go - a copy of the 1979 Playboy article that discusses the birth, life and death of the Workers Party. (I only read it for the articles.)

The debacle continues. (And note the "extraordinary powers" granted to census collectors):

Has anyone that didn't supply names and addresses heard back from the ABS yet? I haven't yet.

So they can issue fines before 'the system closes'? Pffft!

If your avatar is too ironic, I won't tell anyone if you feel the need to change it.

address no biggie as they have it already.basically what I have read if they wanna fine you or take further action they need your name. Obviously if you dont put your name in they dont have it but they could cross check the infos and get your name from other agencies(or whatever you wanna call them) but that would be breaking their own law so on the court(if that happens) you should have pretty good chances to win.But we all know what could happen. I hope I got this right.

so basically they dont even give us a date to complete by.I assume they figure they need x days to check the forms and the last days is the 23rd.so might need to send it in 5 days prior to give them enough time to check

I filled out my paper copy a bit late of course and sent it off 2 or so weeks ago but "George" our census rep has called at my house now three times since it was posted leaving calling cards (first time with a new census form) in the fly door reminding us we have not done our census yet! how much is this now costing us if their canvassers dont even know who have or have not already done the turtling thing ?

I put my name and address but checked "no" to them keeping my information for future records because I love to say "Nothing to hide Nothing to fear" and practice what I preach! :)

I've seen the census drone in my area but no sign of any approach about me yet. The longer it goes the more I think it is going to have to turn on whether they start cross checking with those other agencies.

See below for an extract from the 2016 Census Act.

They can't enter a residential dwelling, but can enter your yard or, if living in an apartment, any common area such as the corridor. The powers of entry go beyond what is normal (hence "extraordinary powers" in a legislative sense I think):
