Maybe a dumb question but I am wondering for a modern proof coin of set, what would be the impact of the value if COA is missing?
How about the condition of the outer paper box?

Sadly they would have a slight negative effect but not as bad as any damage or imperfections to the coin or capsule.

A missing outer paper box, if it was the white sleeve with no writing on it would not be missed.

A missing paper box with a pretty picture would not be a disaster but if you were offered two, one with the outer box and one without which would you chose? Most people would chose the one with the outer paper box. If you were selling it and it was the only one around then no one would really mind.

The Certificate of Authenticity is also not a major problem, they are worth a lot if they are a lucky number, they are worth very little otherwise but people expect them to be included with the coin if that's the way they came originally.

From a personal standpoint I would try and knock $10 of the cost if you were selling it to me, if you said no, I would probably take it anyway. If I was buying it as an investment I would walk away but if it was for my personal collection I wouldn't care. If you get really stuck you can ask Spannermonkey for a custom certificate produced for the secondry market.

Thanks Jislizard for the detailed explanation.

WOW~~ Serious? The actual coin itself worth that little? Just its silver/gold content?

Combine both message, it seems it is a no-no

How about those graded proof coins? Let say it is PF69 / PF70 but no box / COA. What would happen to its value?

Dont agree - a silver 1 oz proof S1 - no box no COA. Send to PCGS and if graded PR69/70 - will sell at $190-$240.
I have done it so I know that works

    I dont flip !
Agree or not agree it was done
Bought the coins from PM as a buyback in 2008-9 - they were sold to me without box or COA and no GST
Best plan was then to send to PCGS for slabbing. It increase the value and no one cares if you have the box or COA !

A lot more than a single coin without a COA and box and probably more than a coin with a COA and a box.

Something is only worth what someone else is prepared to pay for it.
