In the 1860's, in Victoria, two tons of gold per week were brought to Melbourne from the goldfields. This tonnage ultimately allowed England to pay off all its foreign debt.
The first President of Facebook, Sean Parker, persuaded artist David Choe to take $60k in stock instead of cash for painting the walls of Facebook's first office. Now that stock is worth $200 million.
Saddam Hussein used an Arabic cover of the song "I Will Always Love You" as his election campaign song in the 2002 Iraq 'election'.
I'm pretty sure that's not factual. They may feast once the sun rises on whatever insects may remain at the light from the previous night, but they certainly don't feast during the night. Toads on the other hand..
Sorry to be a stickler, but bull ants and meat ants are two different things. Bull ants have a sting (also known as bull dog ants, essentially a wingless wasp), where as meat ants are stingless and use mandibles to bite.
On the contrary, I've spent literally hundreds of hours observing nature. Not once have I seen a crow at night eat insects. Early morning on sunrise, yes. Never at night. And this is where mass insect emergences have taken place just after dusk where crows are heavily represented by day.
I did. But in the post you refered to them as red winged bull ants. I agree with the latin name, but the common name used causes confusion. Hence the reason why most scientists prefer the scientific name rather than common name. Anyway, splitting hairs here. Most ant species are preparing to do the same thiing come late summer
Agreed. In fact most insects are fascinating once you start observing their habits and life cycles. Ants on the other hand work in a completley orderly manner. They all have a role to play and will defend it to the end. Many humans could learn a few things observing ant colony collective networking.
Wasps, or wasp nests more specifically I'm very wary of. Severe anaphylactic reaction if stung, probably resulting in death if not treated within 15 minutes or so. Nests scare me.
