I remember when i first got a pmv, i spent the whole weekend walking around the house testing things to see how it operates and its limits. I was amazed at how sensitive it was to miss use eg not covering the sensor area correctly.
Good help me if i got an xrf machine! The radiation levels in my house would spike!

I just got my sigma metalytics today and tested everything today.
I have bought a fair bit here, and all turn out to be authentic. Thought I would post this given recent posts.

And yes I spent ages testing them over and over again and different way. :)

Hi, sigmametalics PMV sometimes can not detect accurately most especially the old silver bars, tried sometime by my wife with a engelhard silver bars, needed to position the wand or move back and forth. Sometimes ok but sometimes out of limits. However, we have a high regards and respect to our dealer because he can buy back anytime.

Has there been a spate of scams happening recently?
I did quite a few buy and sells in 2011/2012 with no issues from both ends.
I am planning on doing some more sales in the very new future at very good prices but the site has completely changed and my history doesn't seem to appear any more.
Even my profile picture has gone.
I am concerned I will look like a dodgy seller

Are these big bars? if so have you tried the new bullion wand which measures to a factor of 4 in depth more compared to the other wands ?

    Yeah fair enough.

Cheers for the response mate, I appreciate it.
I guess I will give it a try and see how it goes but looks like it will be off to ebay then which I despise.

    silver_kahn,

You can certainly trade in this community. The only practical restriction to your reach will be community members who have established a trustworthy trading history because as a seller you would send goods before receiving payment. In fact you could even sell to new members in f2f transactions. Every member here started with a trading history of zero. You are most welcome to trade here and build a reputation. As you build a reputation your reach will expand and you will be able to trade with new members safely as well.

The new wand as new option will penetrate the surface of gold and silver bars deeper however few attempts had been made before it reads ok, it is a precision machine, and bit embarassing if fails during test in front of your collegue or customer. But i love the engelhard bars we bought.

It does reference silver differentials on older coins but not bullion bars in the manual.
On page 6 it states that the bullion setting increased the sensitivity narrowing down the range.
I did observe a difference in the silver bullion 999 setting and the silver 99.99% setting. The results for silver 99.99% were more accurate.

Thank you Stewy, when i get back home, i will check the 999 and 99.99 setting to see further parity between. It is good to know about that.

With the PMV, you also need to place the wand on a flat surface for optimal results. Also, temperature comes into play at times. Cold is bad AFAIK

There was a fairly high profile one a couple of months ago regarding a 1oz Gold Perth Certicard that raised worries across the community

Ambient temperature can also affect the readings just fyi. AFAIK its cold. Best to hold the bar in your hand for like 5 to 10 seconds as silver is so thermally conductive thats all you need really.

Now that I think of it, I'm assuming if it was too hot it would also skew the reading. Might test it out if/when I finally get around to testing and cataloguing all my shiny

Depends on the stated purity wouldn't it? As in, if you set to test for .9999 but wand a .999 bar, it theoretically should be outside the brackets. But not by much one would think

Serial comes through! Hopefully this will put any (completely unfounded I will add) hesitation in dealing with one of the great stackers on this site.

Have dealt with serial more times than I can think of off the top of my head and his knowledge, business acumen and professionalality has been been of the utmost level.

    Mad respect for this guy

Edit: I don't think professionalality is actually a word, but you know what I mean
