"I blame unions completely for the economic mess that we have sunk into in the last 6 years. The Labor Party IS the unions."

In my opinion, without the shadow of a doubt!

Unions remind me of the communist party , good in theory but fall apart in practice
And I get violent urges when I see pro union propaganda ( stickers on cars , shirts )

There are some clever people who frequent and post on this forum, they ought to be serving the public in a governmental form. This way we would not be facing these structural problems now. I believe anybody who seeks office should be barred from it.

Actually somewhere in my history education I seem to remember a model just like that. Someone was pulled from the crowd, literally 'treated like royalty' for a year where he ruled the lands absolutely, and then at the end they chopped his head off or threw him off a mountain or similar.

I think that would work these days. Throw the current mob off a cliff somewhere and appoint anyone who looks like a good enough prospect. Can't do worse than the current arrangements.

Dream on. So much of the way things are is set up to prevent working class from starting businesses to support themselves.

For those smart but not bred into money you get funnelled into expensive tertiary education. Thus the 1st thing you need to do after graduation is get work to pay back student loans. Much less threat to the way things are working at mackas to pay student debt than innovating. They intend us to use internal combustion engines long after they stop makin them in aus.

Those not so smart but practical the unions get their hooks into you. We all know where that leads. 50k workers looking for their next JOB.

Those neither smart, practical nor hard working there's the dole. Or UNEMPLOYMENT The government will pay you weekly to look for a JOB. When the reality is most dole bludgers I know are prepared to work (most do) but find self employment too frustrating with the endless rules, regulations, red tape, fees, levies and taxes. So they keep on selling drugs, painting, fixing cars or whatever it is they are interested in under the table.

Reality is that overall society will decline as long as people search for employment rather than work. Employment is coming from an increasingly small number of increasingly big corporations. The concept that work is as simple as doing something people need done or providing something people want for $$ is lost. Other cultures still understand the connection. How many new Australians running delis, pizza shops etc? How many soon to be former car manufacturers would be prepared to step up and create work rather than beg the next corporation to keep their lifestyle afloat; funded from government handouts?

If it was not for insanely generous RAN ship building contracts, that industry would be stuffed too.

Aircraft maintenance has gone, and will never return. Not much left really. Plastic toys perhaps?

Maybe we should bring back conscription, and dump all the unemployed in the Army as cannon fodder. Give them a job clearing IEDs.

"How about a Royal Commission into the wealth reaping of banks from the Australian public? $4.27 Billion for 6 months for the Commonwealth Bank alone. Where do you think that profit comes from? The Australian (mainly) public."

    Komrade, I am amazed!

Given your posting record here i can only presume you are unemployed like that other bloke who is all talk and no action. So you will not have a superannuation fund to benefit from the CBA dividend cheque. And check out the company tax the CBA pays each year. It may even pay your 'New Start allowance', or was that DSP?

Maybe you would prefer a dozen or two small banks that make 50 million a year, and pay a few cents a share in dividends? Or maybe even a loss and want taxpayer support? You may not bre aware that our Big 4 banks are near the top of the list of Banks on this planet and if any bank is going to survive the future it is ours.

    Come the revolution komrade!

Tall poppy syndrome with a socialist slant?
When an Aussie company is successful - we bitch.
Then, when an Aussie company fails - we bitch.

The profit of any company comes from the public, however nobody forces the public to do business with them.

Yeah that's how the Bolsheviks, National Socialists, Khmer Rouge and the Ayatollah Khomeini came to power. Killed a lot of those disorganised majority who deliberately or accidentally stood in the way too. Perhaps you advocate that?

It's not any government that is responsible for the loss of the car industry in Australia. Australia is simply one of the least logical place to manufacture cars now. Abbot is correct in the first quote that you posted, but neither he nor the Labor party could have kept car manufacturing here. The second quote is him simply making a pie-in-the-sky "hope for the future" comment because what else can a PM do in this circumstance? He is wrong there of course, many of the skills that the overpaid, over-entitled workers have are not useful in other Australian industries, lucky them for having a dream run on a gravy train for so long, now they have to join reality and either step-up or go hungry. Welcome to the real world.
