Some community currency from the US.

It has been going for 10 years next month, which is quite an achievement for a community currency.

The good thing about these groups are that if you ask them nicely they will send you all sorts of things along with the notes, so I have an envelope full of newsletters, leaflets, promo items, store displays etc. Which if you ask me makes it far more interesting than just collecting the notes.

Edit: that is a big picture, apologies to people with older computers

    Received this today.
Took me 18 months to nab one of these at a reasonable price. And this completes my set. :)
It is the only piece of metal that has caused me to break out in a sweat while opening the package. :|

I picked this up at my first numismatic meeting. It's a denarius struck by Marc Antony after the death of ceasar while he was with Cleopatra to pay for troops and ships to fight Octavian (Augustus). It doesn't get more history packed than this, it has everyone. Battle standards and a ships mast on one side, a galleon on the other, 32-31BC, probably minted in Petrea, Asia Minor. Quite likely minted in a legionary camp and paid to a shipwright or owner to buy a galley the battle of Actium that Antony and Cleopatra lost along with control of the empire.

Nice denarius! Good to see more ancient coin collectors out there!

As a note, that coin is likely minted in Patrae which is in Greece, specifically in the north of the Peloponnesus region. Like a lot of these, it can be quite difficult to determine which Legion it was minted under/for. Well worth the effort though to find out as the Legion/die dictates the rarity which can range for these from Common to Extremely Rare.

Even though I'll probably sell it to help fund something nicer- I was happy to get this one with the complete shield rivets - ok head, a few toes and crack through the date.

First post here, and just started off collecting.
The 2015 Britannia bullion was the first coin I owned, and came across the 2014 proof which unfortunately I only had moolah for the 1oz, which I wished I could have the 5oz
Here's the 2014 proof, and I have the 2015 proof 1oz incoming concurrently:

I'm a new member and have purchased a few greek, roman, and Gold Byzantine coins from the past. I have always found them historically interesting. I will have to take some photos of my Numismatics and post them on this site. I would like to see what others may think of my collection.
I recently started collecting 1oz. older Mexican Liberate 's, and other 1oz. Mexican coins. I also started purchasing 1oz, 5oz. and 10oz bullion bars. Some of the silver bars were hand poured.
This buying and stacking has become addictive and expensive.
It's hard to stop buying when you see so many low prices on these metals.
I what to say I'm happy I joined this site. I may need to sell some day and have no Idea how to do that.

It's something you can learn by rolling up your sleeves and just doing it just like any one of us stackers who have sold have had to learn.

    Welcome!

Though certainly the 2014 5 oz Britannia proof coin is one of the most striking coins put out by any mint in many years (in my opinion), the 1 oz size is quite nice itself too. Congrats on getting one. Keep a look out on various large dealers' sites and on eBay, you may just one day get lucky and find a 5 oz being sold for a very reasonable price. Once you find such a bargain, you may not want to think too long about whether you want to buy it or not because there's other collectors who I'm certain are keeping their eyes peeled for the 5 oz coin as well....just buy it if it's a good price.

Yep, and that's exactly what I was doing since i got the 1oz! Extremely poisonous and just seeing youtube vidoes on the 5oz makes me drool, let alone the thought of actually seeing one in the flesh..

You reckon i should tear away the vacuum sealed packing my coin was shipped in as shown in the pic? The packaging's surface wasn't rather scratch free or translucent to say the least but just want to be sure as not entirely certain if the ngc slab is air tight..

^ Personally, if you plan on keeping this Britannia beauty for a while, I'd definitely leave it sealed. NGC slabs are not airtight. The fact that you received it vacuum sealed from the seller is a plus for you in my view.

The most noticeable difference between the 1 oz and 5 oz (other than the size and the depth of the relief) is that the globe on the 5 oz is frosted....a very distinguished looking design feature in my view....makes the entire design jump off the background field.

The Queens effigy has a very high relief look to it...totally ultra cameo...
