A dealer I know had a set in OMP for ~4500 USD.

    I think I saw a PF69 set sell for over 30k before.

It is very rare outside of Japan since it seems to have been targeted at the Japanese market but since you are in Japan you should check out Yahoo auctions they seem to sell quite cheaply there.

I have heard rumors of it selling for sub-2000 USD on Japanese auction sites.

    Hi fishball.
Indeed I've seen several of these sets sell here and the price compared to eBay's is more than reasonable, so was wondered why is that price difference.
Japan being target market for these coin sets makes a lot of sense.

    Thank you.

There is a saying here in the United States "asking and getting are 2 different things" all those 3000++ sets on e bay are not selling 1996 sets cant fetch 1000 as a few in omp have been for sale and no takers. my advise worldbubble for what it is worth ,set a price with a reasonable profit ,and offer it for sale if you want to sell, IMHO beautiful coins but a limited audience,1 set ebay 3800 with 3 pf69 and 1 pf70 NO TAKERS ,so we know that is not the right price:).

well that's the saying not only in US, that's why I asked for a reasonable price :)
I have two days to think if I should go for this set and resell it, so threads here help me a lot to consider and reconsider ))
