Came across this promo for the IOM TT.

The title of the thread was the unofficial motto of me and my motorbiking mates. We were 20ish, unattached, nowhere near the level of TT riders but honestly thought that if we die tomorrow, what's the harm? No wives, no kids, parents are fogeys who don't care.....

Now the burden of the years hangs heavily upon my shoulders (sigh). Be careful with that lawnmower in case you have to take some time off work! Who will pay the mortgage??

Mum and Dad are once again real people who dote on the grandchildren... etc etc.

So, anyhoo to the question. Are families and debt specially designed to keep angry young men subdued and compliant? I sometimes feel that if I'd have had the knowledge given to me through SS when I was 19, I'd have been on the street with a banner instead of (or maybe with) a motorbike.

Oh yeah tell me about it anyone who decides to enjoy life outside the square invokes the wrath of social division you will be in perpetual cultural disharmony. Ye who seeks fun times has to pay the man at the end. We all have been born to serve somebody.

Worth the watch to just Listen to Guy Martin. He's Completly and Utterly off his Rocker.

    Has Anyone Watched this?

Great post! I rode a bike in my younger days ...pushed some limits ..within reason ,of course :)

You seem to be regretful ,though ,that you were such a tearaway...be proud you had the fun and lived to tell about it...

As my dad said to me more than once ,after I did something my mum did not approve of
"You can't put old heads on young shoulders"

I still wake up in cold sweats a few times a year when I remember some of my close calls on the bike. No regrets though and would do it all again. Some of the best times were when I worked only ten mins from great quality deserted mountain roads and would head out every lunch time :)

Old men and memories hey?! :/

I did the IOM track in 1977, and you just cannot appreciate how fast and dangerous it is. Down the straight all the bikes were pulling, from memory, circa 165 MPH in the rain. The rain was piercing the fairings like bullet holes - a clean round hole! Now days, they are much faster.

The prevailing thoughts of the club I was in at the time was, anything over 125 MPH and you were dead, so it did not matter what speed you were doing above this - any accident and you were history.

    Hmmm. Regret? Absolutley not.

Pride? Not so sure. At the time, my life seemed expendable. The problem is, when you're 20, everyone else's does too....

I'm a bit of a motorsports fan and I would have to totally agree with you, the speeds those guys get up to on those winding roads is nothing short of breathtaking. To be honest, I get scared sh*tless just watching it on TV.

Hats off to you if you were pulling those sorts of speeds on those roads, I know I couldn't.

Yes this guy has some balls however ? :/ if you look closely he does have some sort of harness covered up from his shorts which those guys I would suppose locked onto therefore, he wasn't 100% truthful and did have a back up. Not that I would do it :p
