Hopefully they'll have a really good look at the mintages and perhaps rewrite some of their mintage policy.

Perhaps the silver Kilo Lunar coins could be "Mint-to-Order"

The Perth Mint definition of "Mint-to-Order"

Relates to a coin with an unlimited mintage may be manufactured in unlimited quantities for a fixed period of time. Unless otherwise stated, mint to order coins will be manufactured for 12 months from the date of issue. Once this period has expired, a mintage is declared and no further coins may be minted (The Perth Mint reserves the right to sell any remaining stock on hand. The Declared Figure will consist of Sales to Date and Current Stock on Hand at the end of the 12 month period).

    http://www.perthmint.com.au/mintage_policy.aspx

As folk know, the silver lunar kilo coin "Declared" mintage will not be known until the end of the series 2019; final figures will probably be released in the first quarter 2020.

The reason, I'd like to see the Kilo coins placed in the Mint-to-Order category are two-fold.

    1. Those folk who purchase silver kilo lunars know that, no more coins will be produced in the following years. (perhaps adding numismatic value to the kilo coins)

    2. By only having the kilo coins available for 12 months, it would drive sales for The Perth Mint and Dealers. (Buy within the 12 month period or miss-out)

Not sure about others, but i had lost confidence on PM's high premium bullion which has >50k mintage. Mainly due to the risk of milk-spotting.
Perhaps will only buy a roll each from Mouse till Dragon, if the milk-spotting doesn't get worse from now till release of S2 Pig.

I'm not sure I agree.....only time will tell.
I could be wrong, haven't checked recent kook, koala, kangaroo and wedge tail mintage figures.....but didn't popularity die when the mint increased mintage figures on the above.

The low mintage , is what I assume would be the main reason for the series success

    Imagine if lunar 3 flops..
    Due to mintages being huge
    s2 will become hot

S1 and S2 overlapped beginning on 2008 Year of the Mouse / Rat. Will the S3 Mouse be the first coin of S3 or will there be another overlap with the Pig?

My guess is that the Mouse will kick off S3 in 2020....that would make the most sense. Go S3 Mouse 2020!

The Perth Mint just sent out an email about the 2019 Pig now being released, and in their email they said "with Series III beckoning" so that confirms we will be seeing a 3rd series sometime next year

As others have said, hopefully our SI and SII sets/coins will increase in value with that :)

What’s the usual premium for Lunars when issued? How much more than kooks or koalas?

I ask because spot is way down from a few months ago and the lunars still above the cost of kooks.

Lunars are always a few dollars more than Kooks/Koala's

Lower mintage than Kooks/Koala's, and I dare say more desirable world wide too, hence the higher premium

Using Perth Bullion as a reference, right now a single Dog/Pig is $30.46. I remember when the Dog was first released 12 months ago it was approx $34ish, so they do move with spot, but are always worth more than Kooks/Koala's

Thanks. I was looking around today at pig and dog and saw I could still get roosters and goats for about the same amount. Made me question wether to start at the end of the run or just wait for the next one.
