Will be interesting to see some of the final mintages for things like 10oz and kilo Koalas in 2012 - I reckon we outsold Dragons to Koalas by ~500 to 1. Not concerned about the 2013 Kook not selling out - took six weeks last year for 500,000 to sell out, leaving the Perth Mint in the position of not being able to sell 1oz silver coins for about 6 weeks. Recently we've just had a similar hump to get over with 1oz gold coins - Snakes sold out, 2012 Roos run out, 2013 Roos not available for order.
Interesting if the spread is 500:1 Just using the 2011 Koala stats makes the Dragon a Perth Mint record. 2011 - 1kg Koala 75,712 coins. 2012 with low spot!!! Eek :/ It's a shame Perth won't release the kilo coin sales until the end of the series, that's a long wait. :| Did you sell may of the 5oz Dragons gp?
Fair dinkum, i dont understand this design. It looks childlike...more like an animated baby Kookaburra from a cartoon. The Kook needs to look realistic, lifelike, imaginative, proud. JMVHO.
i got the coin yesterday. i like it. not my favorite of all time but i agree that i am not a find of the mintage limit.
I just realized the other day that all the coins look so much better if you take them out of the capsule...
I didn't think much of them when I first saw pics of them but having held one in my hand and compared it to the 2012 kook I must say they are indeed very pretty "in the flesh" and I'm now actually inclined to think they're nicer than the 2012 kooks.
It could be worse, you could get the same eagle or maple design year after year. Never fear however, they'll make a proof, burnished, or privy coin to satisfy your need for diversity. If you're really lucky and they're feeling frisky, they might make a special set with a reverse proof, special mint mark or some other non-descript change and charge you spot X2 for it. Good times....
Maybe you guys that don't like the silver bullion coin will have a change of heart when the coloured Kookaburra is released. 2013 AUSTRALIAN KOOKABURRA - COLOURED (Items 18 - 21) The design for these (1kg, 10oz, 1oz, 1/2oz) silver bullion coins, consists of a coloured representation of two kookaburras perched on a tree branch, superimposed on flowers.................. http://www.comlaw.gov.au/Details/F2012L00870/Explanatory Statement/Text Please feel free to add your coloured representation on this coin.
This now iconic design highlights a perceptual aesthetic shift in its role as a pre-referent to an evolving neo-numismatic signifi.
