Not really an inflation issue, hard to keep all that logistical infrastructure up and running for junk mail and Christmas cards.

This is a 5mb harddrive back in 1956
    [IMG]
IBM's Data Processing Division in southern San Jose, Ca transported the first hard-drive that only held a whopping 5 megabytes of storage.

The hard-drive pictures above, most likely the IBM Model 305 RAMAC, only had room to hold 6 copies of that actual image. The hard-drive wasn't even available for purchase a company could lease the storage for around $3,200 a month, the equivalent of $28,000 today when you account for inflation.

This is 10 terabytes today (2.5")

At first glance I thought it was an IBM piano.

Cadburys chocolate, many big bars down to 190g.
Original size of 250 10+ years ago, which fell to 220 then 200 and now they are putting 190s on the shelves.

Hardly a free market, the drug will be protected by some US patent.

Actually I read that it was out of patent and that it essentially has a monopoly position due to the very low number of scripts that are written each year and the start-up costs and risks faced by a potential new entrant into such a market are possibly too much (or for a while at least - as I'd guess that there could be some broader brand value to a competitor).

Either way, Mr Shkreli is a dick.

Exactly. And taking undue advantage of others in times of transition (as per post 27). Strictly legal, but your an unsociable dick if you do so.

I read just before that he has reversed the decision and, paraphrasing, will "put the price up a modest amount that allows for a small profit".

Actually, the drug seems to also be protected by burdensome regulations even if it is out of patent. So you were indirectly correct.
