Very cool, that magnet has been pulled out of an old hard drive.

I don't think so, normal warnings are to keep magnets AWAY from disk drives and other magnetic media,
If a normal Fridge magnet can corrupt your data, why would a extra strong magnet like this be in a hard drive. ?

No, it may seem counter intuitive, but it is from a hard disk :)

I stand corrected - If I was in a bar and you made that statement I would have bet a few ounces of silver you were wrong.
But just went and checked up - Seems they are inside hard drives

I have a couple hard drives ready for the tip - Think I may pull them apart now.

My loss I didn't tell you in a bar =)

You can tell becuse it has a weird banana shape and you will see it appears to be made of two pieces, one is the magnet and the other is a bit of steel. The magnet would snap easily if it didn't have something to support it.
