Good to know the cops are quick to respond with a fine if you go slightly over the speed limit, but slow to respond with a guy stabbing people. Lucky there were some brave civilians to detain this idiot. Cops arrived after they finished fining people for jaywalking. https://7news.com.au/news/crime/pol...as-man-with-knife-taken-into-custody-c-397208
Although this is 7news footage, I just watched the TV report on 7 they said the guy was "ranting and raving" but failed to mention exactly what he was yelling in the first few seconds of this video. The news just updated it to "yelling religious phrases" He wasn't yelling "Praise be to Jesus" or "Xenu is the one true God!!" was he?
Police do not prevent crime. Police respond to crime. Good and brave individuals prevent crime. Thankfully we live in a country full of good and brave individuals that will ensure the damage from loons like this bloke is always limited.
Agreed 66rounds. Hats off those who stood up and took action. Hope the lady who was allegedly stabbed (haven't heard it confirmed it was him yet) is okay.
Two women were stabbed, one is dead. In the video the guy at the end said "you stabbed a chick" i guess he saw it? The other that died no one knows if it was from the same guy. UPDATE: The media is now saying the death of the other person was from the same guy. Very sad
One of them kind of sounded like "Alah Akbar" but not sure. Also why did the news network briefly cut audio on few of his chants? = Alah Akbar?
"kind of sounded like" haha, yea.. Kind of did... Almost exactly like that. The news is now reporting that's what he was saying. While at the same time saying "metal illness"
Its not the utterances of this fool that should matter. Its his actions and mindset that prompted them. It goes without saying that anyone who runs into a busy street attempting to stab people is mentally unstable. The news only reports the facts youre concerned about when they want to use it for their own agenda. In that way their reporting is just as big a crime as their self-censorship. Dont be fooled into thinking that because this lunatic was shouting to his God when he was suddenly confronted by people able to defend themselves that anyone else except him is responsible for his actions.
Judging from what my cousin told me, its pretty appalling. He was on placement, as he is studying medicine, at the two biggest psych wards in my area and said that escapes were a daily occurrence. Most staff are not willing to risk their safety just to stop a psychotic junkie from leaving.
why is he not wearing any tag? it can be contagious, people working there can get contacted mentally too occupational hazard
I don't blame the doctors and general staff for not trying to stop a violent person, that's not their job. Paid security should be doing that. Very scary for staff if these places don't have adequate security.
A security guard getting paid minimum wage is unlikely to give much of a damn either. Theres no easy solution to this mess.
I would take that as inadequate security. Regular hospitals have this issue too regarding inadequate security. Too many people on bad drugs these days https://7news.com.au/news/health/nsw-hospital-workers-to-strike-for-safety-c-376688
The most valuable members of our societies are often the most forgotten, underpaid, overworked and emotionally broken individuals.
Does the 1983 Richmond Report come to mind when we hear of such incidents with people with mental illness and the impact of that policy on them and the community.
