Hello, Went gold panning for a little fun with my missus and actually found some gold (very little) and was just wondering about the best way to store and display them. I have bought a little glass vial with a screw on aluminum cap but not sure if water is the best solution to sit it in or an oil of some type. Figured oil will have more viscosity and allow the gold to move slower than in water if the vial is picked up, it may allow your eye to keep track of it nicer as it moves. Or it may make it look crap as it might not be as easy to see through. If anyone has any knowledge on this it would be greatly appreciated. It was a bit of fun and cool to know I have actually prospected some myself Cheers, BM.
Cheers for the info, was leaning towards distilled water but wasn't sure if there was a better alternative...
I have mine stored in the river water in which I found them. Got them from the Arrow River in New Zealand, great day out!
Hey Bear Metal, I received a small vial of panned gold flakes from my grandfather when he passed away. I remember being mesmerised by them as a kid. Anyway, he said they just put them in water and they've been like that for at least half a century now. Hope that helps.
