Okay, so suppose you have $100k to invest in some precious metal stocks, what stocks would you choose and what weighting would you apply to each one? I put a bit of thought and came up with the below. What are your thoughts/alternatives? Code Company Price %Weighting NCM Newcrest Mining 36.900 15 CCU Cobar Consolidated 0.670 11 GDO Gold One International 0.540 10 TRY Troy Resources 4.380 10 PGI Panterra Gold 0.150 9 ARD Argent Minerals 0.190 8 GOR Gold Road Resources 0.345 8 MSR Manas Resources 0.170 8 AYN Alcyone Resources 0.091 7 CHN Chalice Gold 0.270 7 ORS Octagonal Resources 0.155 7 (NB:I do currently hold some of the above)
I'm not into PM stocks :| But if I had to, I would put it all on NCM, since they are productive and pay dividends.
Imho, u gotta go for "big brothers" to withstand/min the current volatility. If u love PM stock, NCM is best card on the table. Then mix with others big iron ore n big banks stocks. Good luck!
When's your timeframe to place your bets. At this point in time, I would be scared to put anything on stocks because of the potential down trend for the market due to the euro exploding. Well unless your shorting certain things. However i was following a stock called ABY a few months back that i wanted to buy but never did (they are a gold miner). They have been doing pretty well and recovered nicely after the GFC, might be worth a look ?!
I would have no issues putting some money down - nibbling at the stocks with the above portfolio ratios the ultimate goal. Nothing wrong with nibbling.... slowly slowly
Timeframe? bit open ended, but suffice to say they are not in and out of a week. More hold on until they get ridiculously expensive or their circumstances change. Thinking 1-3yrs though.
