    I heard a Dietician on the ABC Radio yesterday promoting the health value of fat in diets say;
"Eating fat won't make you fat anymore than eating sugar will make you 'sweet' or eating vegies will turn you green".

cigarettes will probably still kill you but! :)

Buy quality cigars from OS now, sell later. Time to reap some of the rewards of government interference into the market. Cuban only if anyone is interested. And store as you would a fine wine. ;)

Government interference may lead to prices rising so much that spending will shift to black market cigarettes (or alternative addictive substances) and the anticipated taxation windfall may not eventuate.

Online forums such as SS exist in the cigar world, those that are willing to risk now may reap a reward in the future.

The problem with these taxes (i.e. on tobacco and sugar) is that they are often justified because of the 'added burden on the health care system'. Which seems logical to most people, until you consider that the government's job shouldn't be in any of these industries (smoking, sugar, health, or healthcare), they should be left to the free market. And when you start unraveling the ball of string, you realize the government probably shouldn't be doing most of what it does.

Worse, it will grow the black market and push out legitimate businesses while simultaneously increasing the risk of more demand on the health system as people move to illegally manufactured and/or distributed substances without quality oversight.

And by expanding the pool of criminals, the police and justice system will face greater costs.

You smokers might like to know that flu drying creates sugars in the leaves and their burning creates toxins which are believed to contribute to the cancers induced by cigarette smoking. I had a friend in the seventies who swore by only using sun dried tobacco - apparently hard to obtain but much less noxious. He said cancer rates in France with sun dried brands were only about 10 percent of those in UK with flu dried brands.

He did eventually die of cancer but it took a lot longer to get it.

Legalities of buying a sh1teload of ciggies now and selling them in 2020 for fat stacks?????

On the numbers, it looks a better investment than either property or shares over a 4 year period .....

I don't smoke anything but I do sympathize with smokers. Another absurd tax-grab.

Import duty is over $500/kg for tobacco, value adding to a product. That's not a bad day's work for the boys in Border Protection just for opening a few boxes, weighing them and sticky taping them back up. Mind you, it can take them weeks to actually carry out that task. :/

vaping is the only way to go!

Give up tobacco forever and the ex smoker can rest assured every single tax payer will one day eventually have to carry the burden not just the smoker!

Staunch anti smoking advocates are sealing their own tax increases. :) :)

Ex smokers who now vape (believe it or not) can just simply stop vaping if they choose, its that simple it really is! but smokers cant just stop smoking because it isnt that simple and history is proving this. No 2 smokers are the same and every smoker smokes for different reasons but all vapours vape for the same reason (to get nicotine) and this is the secret you will never be told by your government or MSM.

All and every smoker needs to know and know it "now" that vaping (e cigarettes if you like) is a 100% way to stop smoking tobacco forever. They were actually invented and devised in the 1950,s but "shelved" did you know that?

You just need to wake up to it. Skyrocket perhaps?

$120 inc postage total set up cost and around $2-$4 per week tax free for even the heaviest chain smoker.

Smokers are the same as alcoholics vapours are the same as casual drinkers.

Nicotine is what you desire as a smoker and smoking is a way to get nicotine but nicotine without tobacco smoking is just as easy to take it as it is to leave it, and it really is. :)

50 a day smoker who could not quit who tried everything to stop smoking but couldnt, until it was found! you too can be free from smoking tobacco but be quick before it is totally banned in Australia for no good reason other than tax revenue.

    Smokers please wake up.
