I initially put this on another thread but it must have been missed. What would be a fair silver bullion trade price for these items that fell off the back of an auction? 2000 Olympics cased set of 16x1oz silver proof coins. 2000 Ancient Coins cased set of fourx2oz privy series, (comes with real ancient coins). The reason I ask is I'd rather trade here than sell on ebay. Is either worth holding on to, i.e. can either maintain much of a premium over spot in an ever rising silver market? (If I look at these coins much more I won't be able to let them go, those 2oz kooks are a peach.) All thoughts appreciated. I have other material to trade but this couple will be a start. Mark
How many where in the mintage? I'd say at least $900 but hard to say with accuracy since this is numismatic more than bullion (nice simple bullion).
Hi Smooth, According to the info I have there were 10 000 Olympic sets produced (mintage for each design is 100 000) but only 2000 of the privy coin sets were produced. I've been cruising ebay getting a feel for how things go and you see plenty of Olympic sets but I haven't spotted the Ancent Coins one yet. I was toying with offering the Olympic set for a 20oz silver bullion bar. Mark
Do you have any photos ? Would be good to see them anyway. Sounds like a good swap I think. Can't say I have seen the Ancients you talk about so would be nice to see
I'm winging it here but this scan shows one of four individual coins in the set along with COA and an example of the actual coin depicted in the privy mark. The entire set consists of four such sets. Three of the ancient coins are in fact silver, the other is bronze. Next time I'll take the kook out of the case. Mark.
The 2000 Olympics you might get $40 a coin for I would think x 16 qty. I've bought up a heaps of Commonwealth and Olympic Games coins of various types and just put in my bid at spot + $5 and more often than not I buy them. The Kookaburra/Ancient coins are another beast though. A Privy 2oz Kook would currently go for around $70-$75 depending on the Privy. Gold privy's go for more. There looks to be included the Roman silver coin but these can be bought en masse for not much. I would suspect these Kook coin sets might sell for around $130-$150. So, I'd value your collection at : Olympics - $640; Ancient Kooks probably around $600 or so.
Here are the four coins out of their cases. Nice set, those kooks start to grow on you. Scanner does a brilliant job. Mark.
Actually my quote of $130-$150 a coin might be a bit generous, found on fee-bay a 4 coin set went for $399 or $100 a coin. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/2000-2oz-Koo...110584857071?pt=AU_Coins2&hash=item19bf5f01ef
Thanks Matthew, the Olypmic cased sets do seem to go for anything between $600 and over $700 sometimes so a 20oz bar is not too far out of the money. I'll probably put it up to trade shortly-ish. Just spotted your ebay listing, I paid $75 per coin so I could go either way, swap 8oz for say 12oz or keep 'em for a while. Thanks for the effort. Mark
