I'm not excatly sure what they are or what they are called... but i have some. The Square pattern coins that typically were pre-decimal. Are they legitimate or strikes made to look old - such as the photos below. I have some 5/ and 3d proofs from 1920 and 1921 that i was told had 750 mintage, were released in London for collectors, not circulation. And were struck in gold, silver and copper. Is some of this truth or just BS? If they are not the original Square Penny "specimens" then they are re-mints and the value is whatever someone wants to pay. An original one is worth 6 figures easily these days. If you have one of them "score"
Nope, seriously doubt that these are original. As i don't even know their purity it looks like they will just be confined to the back pile labeled "interesting but useless". Ta
yes they are are worth about $30+ a set atm, and i think it was about 2002 or so, but may be wrong on the year. They where commissioned and made by Spink and sons in London though? Fantasy coins are still very collectible. The original square 1/2d and 1d only had a kookaburra on the obverse. And was a pattern series from before 1919 - 1921 to reduce metal usage and minting costs near ts easier to cut straight lines etc. The original patterns where made in Nickel, Cupro-Nickle and Bronze.
$30 as set? Well looks like this will also be relegated to the stupid but fun purchase pile. Thankfully it is only a small pile
