    Time for some fun.
Year 2025, The world has seen the worst collapse in all of history, Here in Australia the banks have limited cash withdrawals to $100.00 a week, industry has collapsed and business is closing left right and center.
Gold and silver have gone to the moon, but so too has food and basic necessity's.

People have reverted back to bartering in local community's - most probably via facebook buy and sell!!! lol.

I was fortunate enough to see the collapse coming and bought pallet loads of sugar and flour, I dont know anything about precious metals except that gold does have great value. Like the average punter I know nothing about silver or other metals for that matter.

YOU, need some sugar which is now about $20 per kilo, incidentally the ROUND 50's you hold are worth about $40.00ea with their silver content. So you figure you could get 2kgs of sugar.

You contact me via the facebook buy and sell asking for 2kg of sugar and you can pay with a round 50 cent coin. I laugh (being uneducated about silver) saying its $20 per kg not 50 cents.

How do you convince me that your 50 cents is actually worth $40 to purchase the 2kgs of sugar??

Not being facetious now, it is highly likely that cash will be banned in the period before your 2025 scenario.
That means it is simply numbers on a screen, controlled by a Central agency which will ignore all reality, and at the worst will be lines waiting to buy a reduced and reducing amount of goods. Anyone who has stockpiled large amounts of food best keep very, very, very quiet about it.

So in my scenario laid upon your scenario, you are in controlled accommodation somewhere, and your hoarde is in government hands. I am either with you, or quietly trading my 50s to the black market to pay gangs for occasional food, or most likely, protection.

    Happy New Year.

Maybe I partied too much back in my young days, but I thought you meant something much more fun when you said "man with the sugar"?

I am the man with sub-gram gold nuggets, a set of scales and a calculator who will find it much easier to trade for other goods compared to fractional silver users.

I'm the the man who can grow food, hunt, trap, fish for food with weapons made from natural materials then cook it on the fire I lit with 2 sticks. My self reliance is sweeter than your sugar.

More chance of a sugar seller "getting" the value of gold. I try and mention value and collectibility of bullion silver or pre-dec coins to people but most are keener on Dollar coins or 50 cent cupro-nickel crap with massive mintages and mainly face value worth.
Also gold easier to stash and store.

Direct barter might not be possible.

Might have to sell it to a third party to get whatever is current 'money' and then use that to buy sugar.

Last thing I want to do is spend ages convincing you that silver is worth $$$ for you to then mug me.
