My local coin store has on offer a 1995 proof 1oz silver panda at ca 480 USD. Since I am fairly new to the world of pandas, I thought I would check with the experts here. I believe it comes only in the plastic capsule, without the plastic around it. I have only seen a photo so far, so I have sent an email to inquire further.

Do you have any suggestions? Should I jump on the opportunity, or proceed with caution? The seller is reputable, so I have little worries there. It's more a question of making a bigger dip in the panda pool. So far I only own 4 proofs, among them a 2007 and a 2008 bought at USD 90 a piece.

Another question, must proofs always come in round capsules? Can you assume they are fakes if they do not? Or is that only the BU?

I have a feeling I am getting into a territory with a very steep learning curve.

480 is a bargain but depends if it comes with the COA.

This can fetch well over $700 on eBay if you sell to the right targets (max ~$850).

1995 1oz proof panda that is.

You would have to distinguis beetween proof and bullion, though? Proof has a mintage of 10 000 coins, right?

    Wow! That's a bargain!

I haven't come across any fake proofs before.

If it's from a reputable dealer, I think you can make a quick nice profit from it.

Proof should have a P written on it somewhere.

I may be wrong but 2007/2008 did not have 1oz proofs.

So the COA is the key here? I am still waiting for a reply from the store... The photo they show is merely the coin in the plastic capsule.

The "P" is the key :)

If it has a "P" on it, don't delay, buy it today :)

And 1995 proof does not have the P mark if I'm not mistaken as it has a different design to the BU version.

Hmmm, thanks for the replies! I think I read somewhere that the 1995 doesn't have the "P" on it? Is that correct?

Re 2007/2008's not having proof editions, if that is the case, then it demonstrates that the coin stores in Norway don't really deal with pandas all that much, and haven't got 1/20th of the expertise than the posters here on SS. Glad to be able to ask here.

if it proof with COA and original case, 480 USD is good price, not bargain but fit with collection price

There is no P mark The price of the 1995 proof is just a quick search on Ebay

Thanks, again to all! The design is the one on the coin they're offering, so I feel sure it's the right one. The condition and the certificate would be the question, then. It does not come in the plastic bags as in your picture, Peter. I did a search on eBay for it, and noticed none have gone for such a low price. I am 2 1/2 weeks away from my "local store", so the one thing that gives me most pause is the fact I won't see it before I decide to buy. I guess this might be the case most of the time anyway.
