Short forum outage

Discussion in 'Forum News / Announcements' started by Administrator, Aug 25, 2014.

  1. Forum was intermittently unavailable for a short period this morning due to the server disk that hosts the uploads filling to 100%.

Due to the remote hosting nature of the forum in a datacentre, it was more prudent to immediately delete some of the member uploaded images rather than try to save them permanently - the 500 largest uploaded files (all over 1MB ea) were trimmed from the server, and subsequently service has been restored.

A longer term solution is more disk space, but we were otherwise facing an outage of many hours to move and restore what for the most part was barter thread images, which is for some reason where most of the huge images live.

When can we, the slackers, have the opportunity to become "silver stackers" via membership again ?

    :)

Goods for barter threads have big photos in them. Would it make a difference if images were posted in thumbnail format? It would make that sub-forum easier to read. :/

Same. Had to start using it as can't rename iPhone photos to upload them to SS. Recommending the use of an external image host would save an incredible amount of space.

Aargh! Don't suggest that because then we may have to go ahead and do it.
