Can I get more for selling jewelry as is (4 chains) or have them melted into bar form?

I would have thought you'd get a bit over spot for the bracelets as is but only spot, maybe less for melt.
I'd be interested in the top 2 ;)

From experience they are better left as chains UNLESS you can also refine and assay it yourself all back to 999 then Bars in that case would be better.

not selling them yet; just a general inquiry. The chains range from 22-24K around 1.5-2oz. SO how much above spot would be a fair price?

I'd almost definitely sell as is - bob round to my place and I'll polish em for you :D

Ease of selling tends to depend on the purity I've found...

9ct - easy enough to move but heavy curbs can be hard to shift when hustling to friends etc. Ebay is also a bit tricky when selling jewellery over $1k - people are much more hesitant to buy. I guess people just aren't into 'drug dealer chic' these days!

18ct however is usually much easier to shift, selling either in person or via ebay.

I would recommend if your trying to shift them for 4 figure sums on fleabay, see if there's somewhere you can get an XRF reading to verify the purity. a photograph or copy of the results would do nicely.

If your set on turning them to bullion - why not cut out the middle man and scrap them at W. Davis. Their scrap buy rates are great, and we know how decent their prices are for selling. Only trouble is they don't do interstate trade usually - might be worth speaking to a Melbourne stacker who can help... (calling the monkey)

I would be very weary if it is stamped .999 for , that is pure gold ! The clasp and links would be extremely worn if the piece was ever worn. 22k is common in India and some other places, but I have never seen a .999 gold piece of jewelry ever , not to say it does not exist but....

Lucy43 had a .999 bracelet up for sale a while ago if I recall correctly.

I forget who bought it now - only it was ridiculously cheap - possibly even under spot. :D

The piece was made for my daughter when she was a baby thus she has never worn it. just because it is not common does not mean it does not exist.

Oh also when you say "assayed" what type of equipment were they using ? it almost sounds like it could be detecting a .999 gold plating . I am not at all trying to put down your bracelet , just offering an opinion,I have a little experience with this.

That is really cool you had it made for your daughter. It is a nice looking bracelet . And if it is .999 gold what an incredible work of art . I could see how one could roll out some .999 gold coins or bars into wire and sheet and premade attachment points requiring no solder and by stamping and weaving create a .999 bracelet ! Thanks for sharing this.

Just wondering why you would want to melt it into a bar ?

I am just inquiring what was more profitable as I have seen people buy junk to melt. It was cool to wear those bracelets in the past, not so much now thus she had no interest in the bracelet as she says it looks gaudy and for old ladies.

Thanks I got a good laugh out of that , is she a teenager? I have young kids (one a baby) and I like to think they will be into gold and stuff I like but they probably will just think it is lame as hell someday...

Wow, can tell she's got no Gipsy blood in her :D

I got given my first gold signet ring from my father at 13, and treasured it as an heirloom ever since.

That said, I'd say I was a rarity amongst teenagers for loving jewellery.
