Only on this forum...or this site for that matter has my screen been going dark grey when I type in a thread. Is anyone else experiencing that? And is there a fix? Thanks.
I just switched from chrome to IE8 because of problems I was having using chrome. Any other suggestions you might think of?
This has been brought up before, and to my pea brain knowledge, has never been solved (was discussing with fishball). Anyway, make sure IE browser is in 'compatibility view' (somewhere in options). If it is on, then simply try turning it off (i.e. deselect) to observe any changes. - fishball takes my credit the bastrd - fishball approves of hiho's suggestion to use FF Screw IE. Use FireFox.
Have the same problem it is a pain not being able to cut and paste and the screen going dark every time you click on something. But have noticed if you go to Post reply instead of Quick post the screen won't go dark.
I restored my computer to the previous version IE8 using restore to an early point of time as soon as my PC installed IE9 without asking me. The problem is after a new reboot, the PC installs IE9 back again before starts.
Do you have AdBlock or similar? Try switching that off for the page or whole site and see if that has an effect.
(REDBACK don't read this, it's not English ...) It's not an adblocker - I can reproduce it in IE9 with no ad-blocking addons. I think there's a lightbox script that IE doesn't seem to like, maybe GP can have someone take a look: This is line 226: I used IE's script debugger (IE9) and it seems to find it right away on clicking in the quick post box (to reproduce the screen going dark). The lightbox script is at: http://forums.silverstackers.com/include/lightbox/js/lightbox.js?v=2 All other browsers take this in their stride, but IE ... well ... it's a Microsoft browser and there's an entire interwebz dedicated to how poorly it has performed in its many iterations! So in other words - either switch to Firefox, Chrome, Safari, Opera or pester GP to fix it There, now we can all rest easy
Thanks for everyone's feedback. I'm going to keep IE because the switch from chrome to IE was painful enough, but would love to hear when someone has a fix. The problem is not super bad, but it is rather annoying.
Amazing detective work Macros. Have you tried compatability mode on IE9? For my IE6 at work (GAHHHHH) there is no issue.
Tnx! Ouch! I feel for you ... On one of our sites which gets about 40,000 unique visitors/mth, only 144 last month used IE6 ... you MUST be working in a government dept? Compatibility mode is a great idea. Also @Jaceravone, you could just load up Firefox for use solely with SS - I regularly run about 3 browsers at once, but then I'm a nerdy stacker Then you keep IE9 as your default/normal browser. I'm sure GP will find a fix - aren't the guys upgrading the forum (or at least in the planning stages)? What would I know? I live in SeQ.
Brief Microsoft 'how to' vid on IE9 compatibility mode http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/How-to-use-Compatibility-View-in-Internet-Explorer-9
Thanks for the vid. Unfortunately, CM does not work. I tried it the other night and had no luck. Oh well. I guess I will continue to wait for the computer guru's to find a fix. @MTB, you are right that I could run both. I did that for both chrome and IE for many years, but then I started to have trouble with my work sites. The IT guy at work said that it is chrome messing things up and once I deleted it I have not had any probs. Now I don't know about FF. I have used it before in the past, but wasn't thrilled. I guess Im not supposed to be thrilled with using it, as long as it gets the job done, but I haven't gone back to it since. Thx/ Joe
Yes FF is not so bad these days - and shouldn't really interfere with IE at all (it doesn't for us on at least 4 networked PCs, combination of laptops & desktops). On one I run IE and FF 100% together on two big screens (need to be logged into Google differently so I use IE or Chrome for Gmail sometimes, as well as testing browser compatibility). If you do install it, just don't bother with any addons, don't bother importing anything from IE when you install and don't ask it to be default browser or do anything to modify your search behaviour - then you should be OK. I can't honestly understand why Chrome would have messed things up like that, not that I dispute your to your IT guy's accounting of it! It's just a little odd-sounding, but I can understand your reluctance having rid yourself of the burden once, why invite it again hehe Happy to help if you have any issues, I know FF v well - feel free to PM me if you like so we don't inadvertently start some off-topic tech-support corner of SS!
